When did you teach your kids to shoot?

My oldest has shown intrest in shooting and hunting. What age did you start your kids? How did start them out? I'm thinking start with a bb gun for a year or so and then a single shot .22 I'd love to get em in the woods to watch and experience next year.
Thanks
Thanks

I got my son a .22 rifle for Christmas when he was 3.

Cricket at the age of 7. He shot BB guns before that (Daisy buck). He's 11 now and his favorite to shoot are 9mm pistols.

.22 at age 6. 30-30 at 10. lots of practice and gun safety sessions with both. killed a deer on his first solo hunt. proudest memory of my life!

Daughter started out with a BB gun at 4, started with a .22 with cb caps shortly after. She’s 5 and is a pretty good shot with her scoped cricket shooting full power 22lr. Got her a 7mm08 this past hunting season, she’s yet to shoot it though. Think I’ll let her first shot with it be at a deer when she’s got adrenaline pumping.

We just started this past season at 4 with a BB gun. Will continue this into next season with mixing in cricket 22 and .410 sparingly.
We can shoot BB everyday in yard for fundamental leaning and save the bigger guns for weekend shooting.

Son and daughter both at about 3-4 with BB guns then moved to 22s then on up to 223s.
If your kid is showing interest then fuel that fire, just make sure they have ear protection and slowly walk them up the calibers, unless they are wide open then you can just give them a crack barrel 12ga and tell them to hang on like most of the old folks taught everyone...

Start them with a BB gun as early as possible. Being able to see the BB go out of the gun teaches you a lot about trajectories and such.
My brothers kid got started with a BB gun at 3 or so and he is 11 now and super comfortable/safe with guns. Quick to shoulder and aquire target, crack shot. My sisters kids werent allowed to shoot until they were 9 or 10 and they still look kind of awkward 5 years later. True, They don't get to shoot as much but my point is kid your kid used to the mechanics as early as possible.

I let my 4yo shoot his .410 at a turkey target after hunting yesterday.

My girls started at 3 or so with BB guns. They’re now older and kill stuff with full sized guns.
My son is 18 months and we’ve started shooting deer on the wall with nerf guns. He’s pretty deadly inside 12 feet.

Teaching my daughter now, while we are at home so much, she's 4 1/2. Using one of The Henry AR-7s, the sights are really easy to use, but not super accurate, and it only weighs about 3 1/2 lbs.

My son had a BB gun around 7 then I got him a youth .22 at 8/9.
My son has a small disability that effects his arm and holding it though so I had to wait longer to get him one.

When the showed enough interest and I felt they could do it safely. Started with .22 rifle. No recoil and is safe. Can grab/ block if they start to swing it in unsafe direction.
Next 22 pistol.
Make sure they can take kick before do bigger rifle or shotgun. Have known a few kids I reduced to shotgun to early shot once and said nope would not do again. Don’t do shotgun at target. Use can , bottle or skeet. Something that they are more worried about did they hit it than how much it hurt.

I was just shooting a pellet rifle in the back yard with my 3 year old. I might get him a BB gun when he turns 4.

My girls were never interested in shooting when they were young. But now I have grandsons and they love to shoot. I always wanted a nice pellet gun, so I started them off with that at around 4.
I prefer the pellet gun because the rifled barrel and pellet make it more accurate than a bb gun. Started with iron sights but they were already struggling with the size of the gun. So most of their shooting has been off of a rest with a scope. Besides accuracy, the other issue with the bb gun was ricochets. And even though they could handle a Daisy a lot easier, I really wasn't interested in turning them loose with any gun at that age.

Three of the boys were 5 or 6 and had Pellet guns at home and we brought .22 rifles to the shooting range. Moved to handguns at the range at about 8 yrs old.
