re: Are you worried about vacations set for June/July/August?

Called AirBNB and spoke with them about NY since the Mayor is saying the city won't be fully opened in June while the Governor is saying the state should be open in June. Essentially what I was told if it is open in any capacity they are not doing refunds.
If nothing is open that attracts large crowds then what is the point of going as a tourist? No Broadway, Ellis Island, Baseball, Stock Exchange, etc...

Mesa Verde NP just cancelled the reservations I had for different cliff dwellings tours scheduled for mid June. They haven’t cancelled my room yet. Also have rooms booked in the lodges at Zion and Bryce. Probably not happening.

I'm wondering if a lot of these travel agencies and airlines are going to say, "well the state is open, so you can go. No refund." Even though the majority of stuff people want to travel for is closed.

This is crazy because there seems to be a ton of momentum to begin opening the country in early May.
I have an extensive Utah trip in mid June and only need NPs to open.

I was worried about that, because the website said they were closed until April, 29th.. my stay started June 6th.. I was a little surprised, I got the response back the next day that just said "Your reservation has been cancelled, hope to see you again soon!"
I was really looking forward to this trip, too...

The backbone of National Parks are seasonal workers that often live in dorm type settings with shared restrooms and kitchens. Add to that the fact that most live in remote towns with limited access to urgent care. The recent articles in Outside Mag and the Washington Post also have given the NPS a black eye. And lastly, many of these gateway communities are pretty concerned about people bringing the virus in. Yes businesses want the business, but many residents aren’t willing to risk it. Take Yellowstone for example, while the State has low counts, the counties with highest count are the two counties that are the gateway to Yellowstone.
Personally I think most Parks will be open by mid July with limited services. I also expect some will end up closing back down.

Just canceled a flight to Charleston for Memorial Day and Delta provided a full refund. Maybe by 4th of July it’ll be a little safer to travel

Well, here's my situation:
I am supposed to land in Iceland on 5/25. As of today, the flight has not been cancelled. If necessary, it's possible I could back it up to late June / early July but that would be the only other time until next spring or summer.
For late June / early July, I had been planning on going to either Jasper National Park in Canada or drive the Dalton Highway in Alaska. Jasper is a national park that is out of the country and that could complicate things if all this shite persists. With the Dalton - which I have driven about 30% of but would like to go back and finish - I don't need to leave the country and don't have to go through a national park.

fighting with an Airbnb owner right now in telluride.
the festival we were attending in July has cancelled, this putz won’t let me change dates and won’t let me cancel without losing 50% of the total stay (about 800 bucks).
I’m perfectly willing to let the deposit ride until 2021 but he won’t do it. Airbnb’s full refund policy only goes until 5/30.
anyone got a suggestion to escalate?

Go to telluride, take some fish guts, stay in Airbnb, leave fish guts under chairs, behind dresser, in air ducts.
That will escalate.
That will escalate.

they will
the issues many are having is that the mass gathering events (sports, festivals, concerts, etc) will not be happening. If you were traveling for those reasons you are evidently fricked.
I was going to two big music festivals one in June and one in July. So far I’ve canceled flights for credit (no refund), one VRBO with pending refund, one AirBNB without refund, and am waiting on refund policies for the tickets.
First world problems but still

Anyone think Orange Beach by memorial day and keys by 4th of July?
Posted on 4/19/20 at 4:20 pm to cgrand
Same boat here with a few trips
Posted on 4/19/20 at 4:48 pm to Elleshoe
Sounds like the beaches and restaurants will be open in Orange Beach by Memorial Day barring any setbacks. The Keys will be open by July 4th but there will probably be some new restrictions or guidelines to limit big crowds on a holiday weekend I would bet. Guess the same goes for OBA on Memorial Day.

Looks like we are going to have to cancel for the first week of June. Passports are incredibly delayed, and we cannot get expedited service for our toddler.
Posted on 4/20/20 at 10:38 am to TheWiz
Does your toddler really need one?
Posted on 4/20/20 at 11:06 am to notiger1997
As far an anything I can find, ANYONE arriving to Mexico by air must have a valid passport book.
Posted on 4/20/20 at 4:40 pm to TheWiz
Probably for the better. We cx our Cancun trip July 4. Hearing a lot of undercounting and no social distancing from the poverty stricken locals.

Was able to cancel the resort and ground transportation with Costco. Super easy. I was on the phone for less than ten minutes. She suggested to split the itinerary, hold onto the flights until closer to the date, and see if American moves into that 60min + window to get a refund of the flights vs. a voucher.
