Some Potential Problems for Joe B in Cincinnati

I will mention that I grew up in Cleveland and went to Ohio State. Now living in Cincinnati. Not a Bengal fan.
Joe seems to be legitimately unenthusiastic about Cincinnati. Listening to sports talk and someone said the Bengals could tie him down for 7 years. 5 yr. contract, transition status and franchise him. Sounds perfectly awful for Joe. My concern is that at Cincinnati he will get beat up and have no chance. QBs easily go from hot saviors to nothing burgers. (Think of Josh Rosen)
Being in Cincinnati, I am sensing that Mike Brown would make an example out of Joe if he tried to force a trade. I think there is a sense that Cincinnati is being disrespected nationally and if it can't choose and keep its desired No. 1 pick, it would be a recurring problem. This is in addition to Mike Brown's well known stubborn personality. (Consider Carson Palmer situation)
Hope I am wrong, but I really hope Joe ends up in a situation where he has a fair chance to succeed.

You haven't been following.
He's not enthusiastic about playing for the Bengals. All the signals he's sending are pointing to an Eli Manning part deux shunning of the Bengals.
I believe he'll end up elsewhere. Best guess is Miami as a trade partner, as they have easily the most draft capital of anyone.

I hope he goes to Cincy and has them playing on wild card weekend in the next few years. Would be the best story IMO if he instilled belief in the franchise and forced their hand in providing a cast around him.

I would hope that would be true. However, I believe it is unlikely with the Bengals past track record.

So instead of going to a team with a bad OLine, he's gonna go to a team with an awful OLine?
Atleast the Bengals have decent WRs and a good RB. The Dolphins have nothing.
I doubt Miami is gonna do any trading. They have some real issues at every position and they are gonna use every single draft pick to get someone.

I think the way the draft works, if Joe sits out a year, he can re-enter the next year. If push comes to shove, if I was Joe, I would sit out a year. Long term, it is better for him to have a fair shot in the NFL than to be cannon fodder for a bad team and lose his health.

Three year contact, front loaded, with fourth year option at first pick value pricing..that has to be agreed by both parties. Two year signing bonus upfront of 28,000,000! No negotiating.

You serious Clark?
Joe is without a doubt the number one pick in the draft. He is also mid twenties. He needs to play now and get paid. Sitting out a year would hurt the guy not help him.

It would cost Brown around $100 million dollars to keep Joe for 7 years. (A franchise-tag QB gets the average salary of the top 5 NFL QBs)
And Joe would be about 30 years old at the end of it. 30 is about the same age Steve Young finally became the starting QB for the 49ers.
Carson Palmer was 32 when he became the starting QB at the Raiders. 34 at the Cards.

Joe is going to take much tougher hits in the Pros.
He is very tough, but virtually no one can come out unscathed from playing behind a very poor offensive line.

So you think if he goes 1st or 2nd pick ,after sitting out a year, then the team that picks him will be some awesome team or something.

Saints had a pretty crappy track record until they took a chance on Drew.........Winning instills confidence in a program. Burrow is a WINNER.
That said, I’d pull an Eli if I were him.....

Is that track record you are referring to the five straight playoff appearances from 2011-2015? The four division wins since 2005? The winning record from 2003-2018?
The Bengals were terrible this season, and were awful in the nineties. But they were a pretty decent team for almost all of Marvin Lewis' time there. This idea that the Bengals are some black hole of football is not based on anything factual.

Long term Ohio Munis are yielding around 1.6% currently and are tax free. Which at his bracket would be 37%. I don't know what Ohio State tax is but you can add that too.
As to the OP, we all know how much Joe loves a good fight, so I hope he sits the year. His agent's work will be very interesting in any case though.

Wish the Steelers could somehow get him. Ideal replacement for Big Ben.
But there is a huge amount of hate for the Steelers from the Cincy side, so they would probably never let it happen.

He needs to go where the money is the biggest.
All pro sports are about the money. Why should he care what team writes the biggest check? (A bigger market like New York might give him more endorsement opportunities.)
