You could argue that, but my guess is Ben Simmons wouldn't be in the top 20 athletes in the last 20 years at LSU

I'm proud to claim him as a tiger.

This is completely subjective and you have that right

quote:

Great representative for us.

If by "us" you mean LSU, then you're wrong. Aside from attending school at LSU for 5 months what has he done to be a great Representative? And for context, I'll ask you to compare him to truly great representatives like Shaq, Booger, Spears, TM7, Ryan Clark, Guice, Fournette, etc....

So it was a freshman's job to lead the team.

What is that impact?

Simmons: I think no. I think I would have learned a lot more being around professional athletes. Looking at it now, I don't really know what I learned, financially, or just being a person at LSU. I think I've learned a lot more this whole year in Philly, just being a pro, than I did at LSU.

Quote is pretty damned clear. Damn. What part of " Looking at it now, I don't really know what I learned, financially, or just being a person at LSU." don't you understand?

I don't take any of that as a slight against LSU. I think what he is saying is that it was all a huge waist of time. That he would have been better served going pro right out of high school.

All football players minus Shaq. I have not seen one LSU basketball player who is out in the media pimping LSU at every opportunity. Granted the sample size of LSU players in the NBA is minute compared to NFL.

What, did I miss something, did he donate to the basketball program? He was a talented player that was limited by a lack of an outside shot and had a poor attitude while at LSU.

WTF? U cant seriously be referring to Ben Simmons? He was the #1 recruit that year and he will likely be a perennial All-Star NBA Player

...BUT...(& this is a HUGELY MASSIVE BUT)

He's not even in the discussion of "BEST" or "MOST ACCOMPLISHED" Basketball Players from LSU so he's definitely not even Top 10-15 (or more) LSU "ATHLETES" in History!

Stanley Roberts was not a lottery pick. LSU had no seniors. GT had 3 1st rounders on their team too and made it to the final four. Its funny how people can’t understand that lsu lost to a really good team that was loaded with talent too

So gtf. Dont you dare give Simmons completely undeserved credit for this turnaround.
Bean - you missed the point. The OP means the 76ers are on a slide, and Simmons has been a part of that, and he's comparing it to the poor season we had when Simmons was here.

Simmons crashed the program. J Jones was a bad coach at LSU. But Simmons took the heart out of the program.

2 fouls and JJ took him out.
A one and done was limited by our head coach, playing time. Most fuked up coaching I've ever seen.

And not just a little ‘settle down’ time. They sat for the rest of the first half no matter where it occurred. It was maddening. I’ve never understood sitting players for long stretches. Sure you might need them at the end of the game but I’d rather have them play as long as possible instead of banking on some hypothetical end of the game scenario.

I really don't know how Johnie Jones survived having the #1 draft pick and not making the NCAA tournament and having his star decide he would sit out the NIT (causing LSU to preemptively turn down a potential invite.)

That kind of anti-competitiveness should not have been retained.

Explain how 1 player can crash a program.
Its the Head Coach's responsibility to build a roster that is competitive. If Simmons was the cancer, why wasn't he sat down or kicked off the team?
Burrow is leaving, is he taking our heart?
As good as Burrow has been, I'll bet Orgeron has us competitive next season.

People have amazingly stupid takes on Simmons' short time here.

Without Simmons that year we are a basement dweller. He had a great season. Blame JJ for being a fricking terrible coach as to why they couldnt get in the tournament.

He averaged 19 points, 12 boards, 5 assists and a block per game on 56% from the floor and had a 29 PER. I shouldn't have to explain how that's one of the most ridiculous freshman seasons you'll ever see an LSU player have.

As usual you’ve made the most ignorant and stupid post in the thread. Simmons kept that team afloat and as far as his contribution to the program having him come here is still paying dividends. You’re too dumb to understand the kindve recruiting tool having Ben Simmons as an alumni is but it’s huge for us. He’s a social media presence and stays inside the most highly respected NBA circles. Up and coming HS basketball players think of him as a star. Grow up stupid.

Tyrann Mathieu got kicked off the team for drugs and people still loved him, even back then. Yet we have people that vilify and hate Ben Simmons and Greedy Williams.

If that was true the Sixers would have cut him and given him a one way back to Australia.
