And Jonny Jones had the worst season in modern LSU history the next season with 2 NBA players in the starting lineup. A team all you same ppl said would be better without Simmons ended up losing 9 more overall games and 9 more SEC games. They were out of games midway through most first halves yet nobody ever blames Antonio Blakeney or Brandon Sampson, you rightfully blame Jones. Simmons isn’t afforded the same standard yet Simmons did his part and Jones didn’t.

Wow! They made the tournament. That is setting the bar pretty low.
Probably the best group of players to ever play for an LSU basketball team, and you are proud they made the tournament.

Simmons still shows LSU love. A couple days ago he commented on Shaq’s son’s post repping LSU.

Dude came in and averaged 19/12/5 as a freshman and this fan base still has fricking retards hating on him. Mind blowing.

What’s worse is it’s based on a false narrative mixed with stupid fans. Rantards don’t get that a freshman leaving in basketball is no different than a junior leaving in football. They leave as soon as they can in both situations only the rules differ. And of course we know about the misquoting in the documentary. But it’s not just Simmons, these same type fans hated Naz Reid when he was here because they knew he was a 1 and done. Hell we had fans who hated CJ and Shaq for leaving as a Soph and junior back in the day.

What part of " Looking at it now, I don't really know what I learned, financially, or just being a person at LSU." don't you understand?
The part where he said something bad about LSU

Anyone that has watched that interview or his documentary knows that his issue was with the NCAA and college basketball as a whole, not LSU.

eta: Even with the selective quoting, what's the problem? Would he really be the first person to learn more on the job than he did in a classroom?

Is there something wrong about saying you learn more being a NBA player than a 1 and done college player?

I’m sick of so many LSU fans demonizing this kid. It was a fluke that he landed at LSU when he did. Will Wade could have utilized him much more than Johnny ever came close to. I still don’t see where he’s ever trashed LSU. He’s simply a freak Aussie player who was forced by the NBA/NCAA to log one year on an American college team. He put his time in with us and has moved on...as should we. I hope he balls out a long time in the NBA.

I don’t hate the kid but he can’t lead a team. He isn’t a winner. He will get you points and rebounds but when the game is on the line he disappears. LSU fan mistook his posture and disappearance as a lack of caring. In my opinion it was that intestinal fortitude he lacked. That’s why he will always be considered good but not great. At LSU or the NBA.

I think you are right. I read it as Simmons is having negative effects on the 76ers, similar to negative effects he may have had on LSU.

I'm not sure exactly what that means.... but that's what I read it as.

He doesn’t have a jump shot

End of games teams sag on him and he really doesn’t have an answer

And people act like it’s a fricking character flaw or something.

What’s weird is he isn’t even a terrible shooter. He just fricking refuses to take shots.

ETA: he’s definitely not a good shooter either, but his stats aren’t as atrocious as you would think from watching him play.

In 1989 no, one freshman could not make you a winner. In 2015 a freshman could absolutely make his team a winner.

Meh. Heat are really good and Philly sucking on the road is much more of a team problem than a Simmons problem.

Add to that Jimmy Butler was on a mission last night. He went off and put the game out of reach early against his former mates with 38 points in 29 minutes.

I've said my peace on his time here, I was disappointed on many levels. I think ultimately there was a coach here that he did not really respect and did not demand accountability from he nor his teammates, and that was part of the problem.

So some of what disappointed me can be rationalized in that way, but IMHO not all of it.

Bottom line, I wish him no ill will and hope he does well, but I don't think I'll ever have the enthusiasm or loyalty for him I have for most Tigers that move on to the pros.

Impacted LSU? You mean by giving a half azz effort and having a bad attitude?

Holee shite. No hes not one of the most accomplished athletes. There is a team of about 100 guys that just won a title and has done much more and won more for this school than simmons ever did.

I dont dislike the guy, but people are overblowing what he did at LSU. He was a good player on a bad team with a bad coach. He accomplished nothing here.

Y’all are missing the point. Coaches get these guys to play. Brown had 3 lottery picks with Shaw, Roberts, and Jackson (Rauf) and couldn’t deliver more than a mediocre tourney team. This was the sign that Brown’s incredible run was over. Luckily the one and done (fun to watch as a highlight show but no ability/interest to team contribution) Simmons was the setup for Jones overdue collapse the next year and voila’ Will Wade was here. The post Simmons team lost all respect for Jones gushing over his one man stat builder while ignoring all the work of his other pro bound players put in every week and Jones had no remedy. Moral- if you’re gonna throw everything you got in a one and done you better damn sure know he’s takin him with you when he moves on. Coach Jones- thank you, thank you, thank you! General Wade- you are now free to move around the plane! I’ve been to everyone of these up and downs games
With their up and down excuses and so far don’t hear a bunch of whiny excuses out of Will Wade. Just responsibility on losses and mountains of praise for all players in wins. So far this has been the greatest start for a coach in LSU’s history. Keep it rolling CWW and boot up!
