They shot it down, ISO, accidentally or otherwise.

And if they didn’t, and it truly was a “mechanical failure”, Iran is just the unluckiest country on the planet.

That lines up with the timing and them not wanting to cough up the black box.

I can't begin to imagine what the hell any commercial passenger planes were doing in the air, anywhere near there.

That looks like a warhead honestly, but if so it raises a few questions. First, it looks unexploded, so did it some how get stuck in the plane without detonating? If it was indeed a missile that hit the plane, the crash site is quite a distance from where it was hit. So how did it end up with the wreckage?

It was either hit with multiple missiles or it might explain the slow decent on fire and not a giant explosion in the sky and a plane tumbling out of control. It hit the plane but didn’t detonate but caused enough damage to down the plane anyway

One of those Iranians need to walk over there and kick the hell out of it, just to see what happens.
Film it of course.

Missile tip is the warhead and is usually a HE with shrapnel around it. The back end is the engine and guidance/directional components. Only the war head will explode and the back section will it always complete blow up with it.

Missile was either radar guider or head guided. Head guided would have gone after engine and exploded when in close proximity. Not necessitating a contact hit as the achrapnel is designed to take out the engine.

Lucky for The Road Runner, Wylie didn't have a BAE account.

Don't the Russians probably sell missiles and such to Iran?

But yeah, we'd all be crazy to not be a a bit suspicious of potential Russian involvement here given the Ukrainian losses or perhaps "target".

You aren’t trying to say that you think the Ruskies shot it down, are you?

I can never tell with you.

They are probably the leading seller of arms to Iran.

How is that even classify as “oddly enough”?

Anything except that would be odd.
