Not yet. It kicks pretty damn hard lol. Worse than my 35 whelen by a good bit. But it’s a light gun made for people that hunt in the mountains, so I knew what I was getting myself into.

Man, you've really got a good collection of calibers. You pretty much already have the boxes checked in each caliber for both "standard" and "barrel burner." The only one you're missing is in 7mm since the AI is kinda in between. I really love my 284 Win XP 100. That round would give you a 7mm "standard" cartridge. The 28 Nosler would give you a REAL "barrel burner" and be a significant ballistic upgrade over the AI, especially w/ a 26" barrel. Since you don't have a "standard" 25 caliber, the 25-06 would fill that gap. You also don't have a "barrel burner" 6mm, but I wouldn't want to shoot at a deer 400 yards away w/ a 6mm. A good argument can be made against every other suggestion made, DownShitf's rec for the 338 WM is interesting. It's obviously more than you need for whitetail deer, but it fills a gap in your current gun cabinet.
My XP handgun in 7-08 hs become one of my go to guns for deer hunting, but I wouldn't spend the kind of money on a 26" barrel 7-08 for box stand hunting at long distance. Save the short barrel, lightweight 7-08 for woods hunting or shorter range box stands.
If you change your specs for varmint hunting, Got Blaze has some good suggestions. Then I'd add 22 BR or 6 BR.

Lot of good info and thanks for breaking it down.
I’m thinking a .338 would be a off the shelf rifle because I probably wouldn’t use it that much and I still don’t have a Browning Bolt action in my collection.
This will be a gun a grab most of the time but it pretty much will do what my 6.5 Cred and 6.5 PRC customs will do.

What are everyone's thoughts on the 7 rem mag vs 28 Nosler? For a pipeline, turnrow, beanfield rifle for whitetail?

I have this exact build in a 7 WBY Mag. May need to double check my stock model.

For strictly whitetail I'd go 26 nosler over 28. I have a browning xbolt western hunter and it's badass on deer.
Rize- 22 creed for the win.

I just noticed no .30-06
That's inexcusable. Build an ought 6. It's still as great as it always was

Buddy of mine has a 284 Jarrett and it’s incredible. Shoots 3300 or so ft/sec and recoil is minimal. He’s killed moose, Elk, whitetail, nilgai, black buck, etc with it in the past few years. I know a good firearms shop in el campo if you need a hookup

Eh. You’ve got the 280 AI, why not a 280? You want something in the 7mm family, it’s a good compromise between the larger 7mms and the 7-08. Otherwise, if you go the 7-08 route, I wouldn’t opt for the shorter barrel if you’ll be out to 400. Those extra 2-4 inches depending on what length you went with will make a big difference on powder burn and down range accuracy. Just my thoughts. Good luck in your build!
