Looking at getting another rifle built and I’m wondering what caliber I should go with?

I’ve been wanting a 25/06 or 270 WSM for a while. I also don’t have much in the 7mm category so I’m thinking a short barrel lightweight 7mm08 or a longer barrel 28 Nosler.

This is what I have currently:
.223
22/250
.243
.257 Weatherby
6.5 Creedmor
6.5 PRC
.264 Win Mag
.270
.280 AI
30/30
.308
.300 win mag

Looking at doing a McMillian Hunter stock, Defiance action, Triggertech trigger, proof research Light sendero contour for a non magnum and sendero contour if I go heavy. Barrel could be anywhere from 20 to 26 inches.

Hunt in a box blind with shots from 100 to 400 yards on whitetail.

I own a 7 rem mag, and I'm not a big fan of the caliber for regular deer hunting. But for a 400 yard box stand whitetail rifle, it may be the perfect cartridge.

Check out:

25 Creedmoor with 131 blackjack bullets
277 Fury
7 SAUM
284 Winchester

The lightweight 7-08 would be a nice rifle.

Just a couple different options since you have a pretty awesome selection already. Defiance makes some medium length actions so keep that in mind. Could get a medium length 284/ 7saum and thatd be a pretty kickass rifle.

What’s it cost to put something like this together? I’ve put together a lot of ar guns but never a bolt.

A proof barrel alone is 800+ and higher end actions are several hundred too. You can spend a little or a lot on a stock.

With the gun smithing work probably $3500 to $3800 depending on what all is selected.

Defiance action $800 to $1000
Proof Barrel $800 to $900
Muzzle Brake
Bottom Metal or Magazine
Stock $650 to $800
Tigger
Custom Paint
Cerakoted action

270 Win can do this just fine with less recoil.

I have a 28 nosler and it’s awesome. I didn’t build mine though. It’s a nosler m48 mountain carbon, so it came with a proof barrel. I put a Leupold cds on it and it’s by far my favorite rifle that I’ve ever owned.
The 28 nosler ballistics are hard to beat and the energy it packs is insane.

The aforementioned will easily kill deer, pigs, and coyotes. I’d build a dedicated coyote/deer rifle that has zero recoil, super accurate, and fun to shoot. A fast twist 22Creedmoor would be deadly on pigs and yotes at ranges out to 650 yds. Deer no problem at 450 yds

25-06 is fun

That’s all a buddy shoots and he drops deer. He does head/neck shoot all does. Low recoil but appears in steel targets to have comparable KE to 270

Been thinking the same and also looked into the 28 Nosler but am partial to a 30 caliber because they just get it done better IMHO. Think I’m going with the 300prc.
