Ehhhhh if you want 338 Lapua power, buy a 338 Lapua. Out of the nosler rounds, you do best with the 28.

Ended up going with a 25/06 1:10 twist 24” proof carbon barrel.

Trigger Tech Special
Defiance Tenacity Action
McMillian Carbon Game Hunter Stock
Proof Research Carbon Barrel 24” 1:10
Bottom metal hinged floor plate

Will have a black, gray and red colored stock.

This is what I have already:

This is the color scheme I’m thinking of doing but not sure the pattern I like best.

^^^^^least favorite

^^^^would not have red action but looks similar to my orange

^^^^^ may be my favorite

The other option is to use the blue pattern and change color to red which it would look like the above option just a little more paint.

That looks awesome. That third pattern is nice.

Here’s what I’m aiming for with the one I’m putting together:

Can’t wait to see it.

Curious as to your opinion of the proof carbon barrels.

own a 7 rem mag, and I'm not a big fan of the caliber for regular deer hunting. But for a 400 yard box stand whitetail rifle, it may be the perfect cartridge.

Huge fan of the 7 rem mag. I actually have 3 guns chambered in it. Most recent was a Bergara B14 Woodsman. Great gun. I also have 7 mag in in a Ruger M77 and probably my favorite is my early 80s Remington 700 BDL beautiful gun. When I gun hunt, it’s with one of my 7 mags. In NELA we have shots 100-400 yards like you’re talking about. Knock on wood, I have never missed or never not recovered anything I’ve shot with that caliber. It’s what I have confidence in.

As far as hunting rifles go besides the 7 mags, I have .308, 270 & 6mm I pull out a time or 2 a year.

7-08 is a great caliber but if you’re looking at something for out to 400 yards I’d get a 7 mag or another belted mag caliber you like.

Because there are so many better options in a Bolt Action.

I may do one in an AR but I’d never do one in a bolt.

Turdy ought 6. Got it for a good price, full cerekote and two stage trigger for $400 delivered.

It might or might not stay that way, I will shoot it first and see. It has 90% of the features I wanted to build into a 700 already built in. Two stage trigger, 3 position safety, big arse extractor, corrosion resistant. If it doesnt shoot extremely well, itll go to .35 whelen probably.

Oh gotcha, agreed.

I’ve been researching AR builds so that’s what is in my mind.

Why no .65 grendel?

Grendel will not work properly in a bolt action rifle unless the extractor is modified by a gunsmith. The Grendel is based on the .220 Russian which is an odd-ball cartridge. The case head diameter measures .445” which is smaller than the .308 family of cartridges (22-250, 243, 260, etc ) which measures .480”. One other concern, the Grendel is a very short case and does not feed properly from a standard short action magazine.

CZ, Howa, and Ruger offer factory BA rifles in 6.5 Grendel because the bolt face, extractor, and magazine have been modified for the case. The Grendel was designed specifically for the AR platform

Since you mentioned it I had to look.

Had I known about this before I started in on my 700 I would have just gone this route and slapped it in a B&C.

Still might buy the barreled action for my next build... or like you-have the least accurate of the 2 bored out to 35 Whelen.

You should just get the damn 375 you crave and be done with it. Being the do all rifle in Africa, surely you can find some ammo to perform well on deer.
