I had a week of Bible study accompanied by Thanksgiving meals at my home the week before Thanksgiving a few years ago. Had quite the number of OT regulars show up as well. Major hit that I may replicate this year if enough interest is shown.

I never tasted turkey until 1974 when I was 17 years old. It was at a girlfriends house after Thanksgiving. My Mom and MawMaw always cooked PouleDeau gumbo for Thanksgiving. Plus pork roast ,ducks, and seafood dishes.

I thought half the population went and got one from the local personal injury attorney’s thanksgiving turkey giveaway?

Fact. Turkeys are one of those things where there are dramatic qualities between different birds. We typically get a never frozen free range bird somewhere around $6 a pound to fry while my father in law gets the standard frozen butterball for pennies a pound.

I can't tell you how dramatic of a difference there is in the birds, both visually before the cook and taste and texture after the cook. Bon Appitte bore this out in a recent YT video as well.

what's funny is that when i was president of one of the groups at xavier, we teamed up with one of neighborhood parks to do a food for the poor. We bought 10 turkeys from Rouses and 2 local restaurants helped us cook them.

I don't like Rouses meat because I think its really lackluster or downright bad, but the one near belle chasse definitely helped us with getting a bunch of supplies for that event. they even donated $100 of drinks

Two weeks away and prices really haven’t moved any around the NOLA Metro. 11/14 update.

Rouses continues with 35 cent per lb turkeys with minimum $25 purchase. They will also match other store turkey prices.

Walmart has honeysuckle turkey for 68 cents per lb.

Langensteins and Dorignacs might not ever put turkeys on sale.

Whole Foods has organic turkey 2.99 per lb and 1.99 per for not organic. Those are prime member prices. For others add $1 per pound to each.

Zuppardos has the Norbest 99 cents per pound as well as Pride of the Farm frozen turkey breasts also 99 per lb.

Roberts also has Pride of the Farm frozen breasts for 99 cents per pound, limit two per customer.

Does the 25 cent price require a 25$ purchase?

My mom sent me a picture the other day, she found an 8.1lb turkey breast that was mislabeled as .81 lb.

She asked the guy stocking them and he shrugged and said “take it and run to the register.”

She bought it for $1.52.

ALERT! ALERT! T-minus 6 days until Thanksgiving. If you haven't started defrosting your turkeys in the fridge, now is the time to consider it, based on weight. Attached is a defrosting guideline according to weight.

Unfortunately, there has been no movement on turkey prices this year in the last two weeks. Turkey prices are about 10% higher than last year, but still 15-20% below five year averages. Below look to be your final Thanksgiving turkey prices. Major thumbs down to both Dorignac's and Langenstein's for running no turkey specials.

Nov 21, 2019 Update:

Dorignac's:
no turkey specials

Langenstein's:
no turkey specials

Robert's:
Pride of the Farm Turkey Breast: 99 cents/lb. (limit 2)

Rouses:
Honeysuckle: 35 cents per pound (with $25 purchase)

Walmart:
Honeysuckle: 68 cents per pound (no purchase necessary)
Butterball 98 cents per pound 10-16 lb turkeys (no purchase necessary)

Whole Foods:
Organic 2.99/lb w/ Prime. $3.99 otherwise.
Not organic: 1.99/lb w/ Prime. $2.99 otherwise.

Zuppardo's:
Norbest Turkey 99 cents per pound (no purchase necessary)
Pride of the Farm Turkey Breast 99 cents per pound
Norbest Turkey Breast $1.69 per pound
