Looks like both counterweights landed on top the building. Just imagine if they would have hit the street.

pretty sure something landed in the street

That was by design, though.
That's why I'm not understanding why so many people thought this such an immense failure. Perhaps people were expecting something that was not part of the plan.
The counterweights landed on top of the building. No other buildings were hit. The front crane can be cut down now. While I'm sure having a piece of crane impale N. Rampart wasn't part of the plan... it didn't hit any other building and didn't hit the neutral ground, didn't hit any streetcar support structures, etc.
Considering we are truly in unprecedented territory here... clearly it didn't go perfectly... but it wasn't an insane disaster either.

How much do one of those cranes cost? A few thousand $$ bucks at least... right?
you can't even buy a golf cart for a few thousand dollars.

Agreed. 100%. Just a bigger deal that those stayed in the building. Sure the other part hitting the street wasnt ideal, but imagine if that 145,000 lb counterweight hit the street.

You can get those cranes for $39.99 at Harbor Freight. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

They got those cranes at HF. That’s how this whole debacle started. Should have gone to Lowe’s and paid the extra $20.

The counterweights alone are thousands.
Probably a couple of million per crane not counting the tower segments which raise or lower its height.

I haven’t seen the drawings but I believe a link was posted somewhere back in the thread?
The connection I’m referring to it a discontinuous column. Or it could be column splice plate. Regardless my comment was the elevator shaft columns are not one continuous monolithic piece of steel from the concrete foundation to the roof.
There is no more strength in the elevator shaft or the stairwells than most other parts of the building as it is all structural steel, not poured in place concrete or CMU.
Now I did see a picture of some tube steel which was strange.

Well, no shite. You mean the world trade center used more than one beam to travel from the bottom to the top of the elevator shaft? Who knew

Come see the newest historical landmark in New Orleans - the Leaning Crane of Rampart.
I love how the media and government are blowing smoke up our asses, telling us it all went to plan. Yeah, the cranes are down, but it's like stopping a car. You can use the break, or you can crash it into a tree. Either way, the car is stopped, but one method is much better than the other.

As someone not in construction, what I see is this:
No injury or loss of life.
Relatively minor collateral damage.
The project in now "bite-sized".
The remainder of the material can be cut up and trucked out, I would guess fairly quickly.
Maybe not a absolutely perfect outcome, but I would say it went pretty well, considering the obstacles.
