. @MayorBroome spent about two hours this morning going door-to-door in the Wimbledon neighborhood. It’s an 11th hour push against the proposed city of #StGeorge. Many said they’re still undecided and confused. Hear from both sides tonight on @WAFB

Besides some retirees, who would've even been home at that time? haha

No way at this point you can still be undecided.

ETA: The Advocate ran a bit this morning and I think ol' boy in the picture is quoted.

The Advocate

quote:

Thomas Nielson was among the first people Broome encountered in her Thursday morning walking tour. As they walked down Wimbledon Avenue, the retiree gave the mayor an earful about the St. George incorporation effort. He noted it was rooted in discontent with the parish's school system, and told the mayor-president that the displeasure shown by the 15,000 people who signed an incorporation petition cannot be ignored if Broome and her administration hope to extinguish their impassioned grievances.

quote:

"You have to figure out what would bring this city together," Nielson said. "The schools in this area are all successful. They're not failing schools," Broome replied. "We're a great city." "You don't have to tell me. I was here before you were born," Nielson said. "Clearly there's something that has not been addressed."

I don't understand the "divided we fall" message.

It's unincorporated. It may be incorporated one day just like Zachary, Central, and Baton Rouge. What's divided?

Rumors are that mississippi is planning an attack. They are looking to expand their market share on shithole cities and BR is in the crosshairs.

How unethical is it for the mayor to be actively telling people to vote no for something like this?

The pro St. George camp needs to use the efforts of those against incorporation against them.

Ask yourself this, why do you think the Mayor is willing to not only take hours of time out of her day but to walk door to door to campaign against this incorporation?

Answer: Money.

Maybe if she....

A - Showed up at all the crime scenes (no matter the time) in the City of Baton Rouge

B - Went to every public school in the City of Baton Rouge at least twice a year

C - Took a stand against Gravy and Silky at every public meeting

D - Came out against the shenanigans at the COA

E - Called the thugs out

F - Supported a competent Chief of Police

G - ____FILL IN THE REST OF THE BLANKS_____

then she would not be out on the streets protesting what the proponents of St. George have been begging for.

As the BR city Mayor, I understand her concern.
As the Parish President, it shouldn't matter to her at all. She should have been doing her job for the unincorporated citizens all along.

Just more evidence that she only cares about the tax dollars from StG.

2 more days!!!

My primary annoyance about the St. George incorporation is that it is simply drawing a line through what any rational person would think was Baton Rouge if they were looking at a street map. Zachary was a separate town over a hundred years ago. Zachary, Baker, and Central all feel as though you have moved through some relatively empty space when driving from Baton Rouge to those cities.

St. George reaches far beyond what would rationally make sense as their border to reach into Baton Rouge for business tax revenue, businesses that are there because the city of Baton Rouge exists, not because the village of St. George existed.

Were it not for that, I would have no issue with their incorporating. Not that my opinion on the subject matters. It would simply be nice if St. George supporters were a bit more honest about that.
