BR can't. At least they can't do it unwilling of the owners/residents.

They can and it can’t be unilateral.

So when you sell your house, the new owner won’t be paying property taxes :

I don't know. Maybe. But for all I know, it'll go the way my grandparents house near Monterrey went, or my parents old house in Riveroaks went. A rental; later abandoned, and eventually section 8.

Looks like I wasn't the only one who thought that St. George was reaching into areas that considered itself Baton Rouge

Any info on the areas in orange? Older peeps, run down areas? Hipsters?

Curious why they voted against.

I live in the 3-40 area and quite a few people I know were against it because “their taxes would go up.” When I asked them if they had any assurances that their taxes would never go up again if St. George doesn’t happen, they were unable to answer and usually brought up something else.

It seems like the people on the BR side did everything they could to mobilize the St. G vote. Even with that it wasn't an overwhelming number.

I wonder how that map would change if it included early voters.

The reason I was told was that the federal government started nullifying attempts by cities to incorporate new suburbs under the Voting Rights Act on the basis that doing so could be a naked attempt to dilute minority voting power.
