I think one of the most damning things for the anti-St. George incorporation people is the fact that there have been many examples of areas outside the city limits that have requested things from the parish, whether it be something relatively small like street lights or bigger like trying to become a part of Baton Rouge via incorporation that have all been outright denied because either they do not want to support the areas outside the city limits or cannot, however, they certainly have no issue taking the tax money and finding an alternative use for it as they see fit. And another argument they use is that people knowingly moved to this area knowing it was unincorporated....OK, but again, if the money we pay in taxes is good enough to spend then maybe we are also good enough to be a part of the city. The fact that they do not want to consider that has led us to this (and of course the school system obviously)

well that was a hell of an update.
Sounds like Broo-am went to his house first, figuring the old guy would side would her, and he did not. I'm pretty sure she only went to houses she had a good hunch would side with her, blacks and registered democrats. Her plan backfired real quick.

What is amazing to me, is that all these people against St. George, none of them actually live in St. George. Why all of a sudden are you so worried about me paying more taxes Sharon?

Old boy gives no fricks and calls it like he sees it.

I love it.

You must hate New England.

Updated?

At least provide the rest of the update. The reported responses were clearly a mixed bag.
quote:

Residents in the subdivision were mostly friendly to Broome. Casey Walker, who had a "OneBTR" sign posted in the front yard of her home, admitted being shocked when she answered her door to find Broome standing there. "It's good to see you're doing this," Walker told her.

quote:

Jeremiah Griffin, who lives on John Newcombe Avenue, told the mayor he doesn't know enough about what's "really going on" regarding St. George to commit to supporting yet. And Debby Apcar and Schuyler Marin were singing high praises for Broome. A far cry from the harsh criticism proponents have been posting about her and her administration on St. George's official Facebook page for the past few months. "She's the best mayor; the hardest working mayor," Marin said. "I want us to stay together." Apcar added, "I'm not for tearing us apart. I've actually changed some people's minds about it that live near me."

I don't understand the "divided we fall" message.

with your tax dollars we can barely hold on to the wasteland that is north BR. Without them? When those are gone it's going to turn this place into such a shithole that even your area will be affected.

Not saying I agree with that logic but that is exactly what the message means. It's a "careful what you wish for" threat.

They're not failing schools," Broome replied. "We're a great city."

Woodlawn High is a 3 out of 10 school with a mathematics proficiency of 39% and a reading proficiency of 54%. That's bad.

But they're in the top 10 for violence and weapons brought to campus. Maybe she's referring to that

How unethical is it for the mayor to be actively telling people to vote no for something like this?

It would be nice if Mayors would just worry about managing city resources and the budget instead of social engineering.

It's more that you are so hung up being against incorporation because there's no discernible lines or empty space between the two

Instead of trying to scare people about higher taxes, the anti-St George crowd should be presenting a plan about how things can/will be improved, Whats going to be different? Whats the new plan going forward with BR schools? or is there even a plan?

Everybody knows nothing will change if st George fails.

That’s clearly false.

Nice.

Plus, St.G. Firefighters have come out in favor and have shot down the lies that incorporation would hurt SGFD

When public outreach things like this happen, they let all the local news outlets know when and where they'll be someplace at sometime...they all show up at once to get the same story.

This person's vote counts as much as yours.

Think about that.

It’s only a matter of time before the George Soroses of the world start building slums in St George.

As an owner of two houses in great and historic Baton Rouge neighborhoods, I can only hope that St George libtards feel guilty and move to these great neighborhoods, increasing my property value and sacrificing their kids in B Ara public schools.
