Saw these circulating on FB. Beautiful animal. It’s called melanistic or melaninic deer. They are rarer than an albino deer.

What say the OB, would you shoot it?

Yes. If I don't, someone else will. I would rather have a cool mount than let my neighbor have one.

I have to say yes. Really cool looking.
Have to say, that when people talk about "rare" animals, they don't think it out. Had a discussion a few days ago w a fella. Said he would never shoot a piebald deer because they are so rare. Told him that rare in this case didn't mean what he thought it did. He said that he read that about only about 2% of deer are piebald. I agreed, but said there are about 500,000, plus or minus, deer in La. Which means that give or take, about 10,000 piebald deer per wildlife biologist estimates.
Given the same sources, estimates are that .003% of deer are truly albino. Probably similar numbers for melanistic deer, but say it was even .0003% for melanistic, that would mean between 15 and 100 black deer in La at any given time. Rare, yes, but quite a few of them actually.

In a heartbeat. Once I verified it wasn’t a bear.

All a doe has to do to avoid his arse is to take out swimming.

I hear they make a darker roux, like a 5-6 beer roux.

I have seen a piebald on public land. Saw it twice in one week but it was a doe and it was bucks only at the time.
