Why do we have so many more school shootings compared to the rest of the world?

I’m sure this isn’t a revolutionary discussion topic on here but I haven’t seen it so regale me. Yes I have cricket wireless and I probably earn a considerably higher income than you.

So what’s the deal? Colombine started a perpetual copy cat syndrome? More easily accessible guns? Almost 300 school shootings in 10 years compared to 5 combined from the rest of the non 3rd world.

We're just going to directly compare countries with wildly different populations?

And does this also include incidents like the bb gun shot that hit a window of a school bus and the guy who killed himself on school grounds?

Easier access to guns and less parental awareness of what their kids are doing.

How many of these “school shootings” are actual active shooter situations with the assailant targeting students, and how many are grudges in parking lots, after hours, at school functions, etc?

Need to see some demographics and real numbers on these

Strict vice laws, loose gun laws.

Angry guys who can't get laid, CAN get a gun and a drum magazine.

Do the kids in other countries act like complete assholes to each other? I can't tell you how many people thought I was going to shoot up my high school because of how much I got picked on. Apparently, they thought I actually cared enough to do that.

But the sad fact is, shootings like Columbine are caused by people being treated as outcasts, lepers. And parents don't seem to care as much as they did in the past, and are just oblivious to what goes on in their children's lives.

The next closest is at 2? Yea I’m calling BS

I’m willing to bet a nice chunk of those shooting were shootings near a school/school zone.

What are we defining as school shootings?

This was my theory. When you have such a diverse population things can get racy but still you would think the rest of the world would have more mentally ill kids doing the same thing. Pretty drastic difference in the numbers

I am not sure of the exact figures, but if IIRC there are in upwards of 100,000,000 guns in the US. Combine that with a population approaching 350,000,000 and scale alone is a major part of your answer. It’s mostly just the simple fact that we have way more guns and way easier access to firearms than any other place on earth, with the 3rd highest amount of people.

However, the copy cat effect is a relevant contributor, without a doubt. The internet would also be a significant factor.

Eta: The youth camp shooting in Norway that killed 70+ back in 2011 is not technically a school shooting, but it is an example of the fact that these things do happen other places.

Because we define school shooting as any shots fired near a school and other countries don’t.

Add that lots of schools are near violent areas and there you go.
