I wonder if The Boys will be given their powers like they have in the comics so they can physically go toe to toe with the shoes.

I'll give you that. But consider this: this show is being made by people in power (or fighting for it in Amazon's case against old Hollywood). So, are these humanizations of the reasoning for why these people are dicks a ploy to make us the consumer of cinema products forgive the people that act this way and thus not question why they should continue to hold positions in cinema? Especially considering Amazon is picking up those that drop out of the studio system or are kicked out of the studio system.

Just food for thought.

Jeez man it must suck walking around everyday being that cynical. Sometimes entertainment is just entertainment.

I was really enjoying the whole trial and error with them trying to kill Translucent. I would like to see more of that.

The whole episode with Translucent really, really bugged me. They're in a backroom of a restaurant, and they keep panning around all of these liquid cleaning supplies, like concentrated bleach and soap. Then they even had Huey give him a glass of water where they showed it disappearing as he drank, but they still couldn't think of a way to kill him.

Nitpicking, I know, but the whole time I was thinking they can't seriously be this dumb.

The main thing I did not like about this show overall was that there was no humanity. None of the main characters actually cares about other human beings, they are all selfishly motivated.

Starlight and Hughie care about others, but they have competing motivations. That's what real life is like.

You are woefully misreading the characters or you haven't finished the series.

I just realized why Hugh seemed so familiar. He's the son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan

To the extent you've gone to on this, no one has any (or at least enough) humanity.

An old trope an Econ teacher brought up to me years ago that's uncomfortable but true is that there are very few truly selfless acts, thus most actions are selfish on some level. Even something as simple as holding a door open for a little old lady whose arms are full can eventually be traced to some level of a return you get (the good feelings from knowing you did something nice for someone else, belief in karma, etc).

Starlight is in it for being able to help people. Period. She doesn't care about the glory or fame, she even gets annoyed that she's not able to just go out on her own and do good for people because HR and legal has fits. Seriously, if she falls outside your definition of showing humanity then no one other than Jesus or maybe Fred Rogers will fit it.

He used ONE baby as a bargaining tool, the other he used as a luminescent weapon of laser-hot death.

When I read the post I thought Billy Bob told Bruce Willis this line.
Wrong on both counts

I enjoyed the first few episodes as much as I have enjoyed any show recently. I did think the finale fell flat. Just something about it didn't work for me. It had the "shock" to tease you into S2 but overall the tone and flow of the episode just seemed off

Just finished episode 8 and Homelander is a great villian. He's what I picture when I hear CS Lewis' quote on moral busybodies. Not that he is particularly moral but he believes he is and is doing what he needs to for humanity's sake.

I have never read the source material, but I became interested in this show because I am a big fan of the Watchmen.

I loved the show. The story is well written, and the program is extraordinarily well-directed and -acted. But throughout the eight episodes the same thing continued to bother me, again and again. Small, individual points that repeatedly tied to other, similar programs and movies.

I honestly could not decide whether they were an homage or blatantly derivative.

Vought vs Veidt as corporate baddie.
Butcher IS Rorshach
Queen. Maeve costume is straight from the island of Themyscira
Annie’s new costume WAS Power Girl
The secret Supe bar was straight from Supernatural (Kripke, I know).
etc, etc, etc

Even the violin music when Hughie was losing his mind was straight out of Umbrella Academy (great show)
