It goes back and forth in the comics as to whether people get powers.

Anyone with traces of V in their system, including descendants of people exposed to V, have a non-zero chance of developing powers.

Butcher had to beat a super-fetus to death that clawed its way out of his wife prematurely and scorched his arm with heat vision.

Comics Stardust exhibited her powers at birth and blinded both her parents and an entire delivery room of doctors and nurses.

OTOH, at least one major character in the series had his powers be dormant for 18-20 years and then turn on at exactly the wrong time, leading to him accidentally killing someone.

And even people that get powers don’t necessarily get powers that are very useful or even wanted.

So I just finished this. I love the Homelander character. The guy is such a dick but you can’t help but really like him. The condescending talks to the other characters, the overall “I’m untouchable so I can do whatever I want so screw you” attitude. What a great heel. He’s like if Baron Corbin was a superhero.

Good season. I’m on board for some more

Finished it yesterday, I really do not see where they could go from here for a second season.... a love triangle between Becca, Homeland, and Butcher?
Homeland is the most powerful force so unless something changes he kills the Butcher since Butcher is the only one who would out him for killing Stillwater.
Seems the story between Hughie and Starlight is over since she turned on the Seven to save him so she would not be welcomed back by Homeland and would be a threat to him.

It was hinted the doctor is dead so would the 2nd season be about Milk, Frenchie, Starlight, and the Butcher trying to find a weakness to Homeland while on the run trying to avoid him + Deeps mental breakdown + Queen Maize trying to "rediscover" herself?

He wouldn't kill Butcher. He reveled in his misery.

So you can't see a new plot formed from Butcher's entire motive being altered right before his eyes?

I watched it all when it came out so the entire show is a bit of a blur until I rewatch before S2, but I do not recall Homelander ever killing someone just to do it like you are insinuating he do with Butcher. His killing of Stillwater was based on her deception of what really happened in the past. If anything I think he has a bit of respect for Butcher as well.

You also can't see a plot formed around the "steroid" use and pumping into babies?

There are multiple subplots are available while having the show centered around one main plot.

The Baltimore Mayor + his kid and crew, the entire Flight 37 when he just left them, Stillwater, Homelander didn't seem to care who he killed to me.

Yes, they could develop a plot around Butcher changing, however, it makes no sense for Homelander to let him live knowing he killed Translucent, is trying to kill him, etc. When he could just off him, head back to homebase and live out the rest of his life.

But it is a TV show so they will probably go with him not killing him just to have the second season. To me it was a perfect one season show.

You completely missed out on Homelander's motivations for taking him where he did, to see his wife still alive.

The Seven is most likely going to be a divided faction.

With Starlight Maeve and A Train being kinda one side.

The Deep being a mix of comics A Train and Monkey is 100% likely to get on board with them and betray them to Homelander to try to win favor.

Noir is up for grabs as he is something different from the comics.

Homelander is the king of pettiness.

The comic makes it more clear as Stillwell calls him out on it repeatedly.

So really Homelander brought Butcher to see Becky and how he was cucked because that's way more enjoyable to him.

And he's got Butcher by the short hairs because his whole narrative about supers is changed now.

But Homelander being the petty shite he is doesn't realize Rebecca has given her son everything he never had. He's just walked into the failsafe plan Vogelbaum and Stillwell created on the show.

Ennis rules are still in play though, the kid be a shite too, as a subversion.

Homelander could have just let Butcher die in the explosion if he wanted him dead. Instead, he WANTED him to see.

Homelander is psychotic, a sadist, and petty. He weirdly respects Butcher and feels some kind of kindred spirit in him. But he can't just let him die. He NEEDS Butcher to see that he was wrong, he didn't rape Becca and she isn't dead.

And then he wants Butcher to have to live with the knowledge that his wife willingly fricked Homelander, left Billy to go raise a baby and made him think she was dead the whole time, driving him into the darkest depths of the human mind. And Homelander can force himself into the a family with Becca and her son.

And there is nothing Butcher can do about it. He wants him to know that, and live with it.

Butcher didn't kill Translucent, Hughie did. I personally cant wait for season 2. Its really suppose to be hardcore like to comic book. Supposedly they are introducing a Ice Power based Neo-Nazi chick that is flat out crazy.

I don’t know if Homelander even gives a shite about who killed Translucent at this point.
