I thought he was that actor from Dawson’s Creek.

He doesn’t really look like either. I thought he looked like Adrian Brody’s long lost brother.

What was funny was early on when Annie and her mother were waiting on her casting call I said is that Joan Cusak for Annie’s mom? Then I saw her fully and said nope it’s not.

Later on I paused it at some screen she was in and the dandy Amazon feature where it shows you the actors on screen at the time said it was Anne Cusak. I was close.

Just finished it. Really enjoyed it. Little too violent for my tastes but loved the overall tone and way they took it.

I have never read the source material, but I became interested in this show because I am a big fan of the Watchmen.

I loved the show. The story is well written, and the program is extraordinarily well-directed and -acted. But throughout the eight episodes the same thing continued to bother me, again and again. Small, individual points that repeatedly tied to other, similar programs and movies.

I honestly could not decide whether they were an homage or blatantly derivative.

Vought vs Veidt as corporate baddie.
Butcher IS Rorshach
Queen. Maeve costume is straight from the island of Themyscira
Annie’s new costume WAS Power Girl
The secret Supe bar was straight from Supernatural (Kripke, I know).
etc, etc, etc

Even the violin music when Hughie was losing his mind was straight out of Umbrella Academy (great show)

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at - from the get go the source material and therefore the show are quite unabashedly using things you are familiar with -

The Seven is a straight up rip-off of the Justice League

Homelander - Superman
A-Train - Flash
Mauve - Wonder Woman
Deep - Aquaman
NightTrain - Batman
The retired "Lantern" for green Lantern.
Starlight is a pretty straightforward adaptation of Star Girl - young blond who is super naive and super excited to be a super hero.

Only the invisible guy is a departure on that front.

The comic, and therefore the show, uses many things we are familiar with for a few reasons - not least of which is that you're already familiar with some of the world, the characters powers, etc. from the get go. It also uses your familiarity as a handle to flip things on you, with how different it is. Certain shots are certainly homages, though in many cases you'll likely see them in different ways or in a way that immediately gives you an idea about the character or the departure of a character's personality from the expectation.

Damn, I enjoyed this so much, I blasted through all 8 episodes over the weekend. Butcher's Knute Rockne speech about the Spice Girls was particularly memorable

My only nit to pick is the season finale. I get the need for having a cliffhanger to generate some offseason discussion, but throw me a bone and tie up some loose ends, heh...for a moment, I thought maybe there was an episode 9 and/or 10 I'd yet to watch, there were so many unanswered questions. But I admit, that's my problem more than anyone else's...

The comic has a lot of fun with it, too, mainly in that they have comics in-universe written by the Vaught PR department and Butcher loves pointing out how far from reality a lot of it is.

Highlights include a black supremacist character who "gets more white pussy than either of us" and a character who is said to have died saving the world that Butcher claims "choked on cum" instead.

I finally finished the season.
It's entertaining and fun and good.

But

They tossed out too much and are going off the deep end with the original and or takes with characters.

They basically cut it up with Uber blended it with X-Men post M-Day and took out the fun bite at everything the series had.

They could have just made its own anti supes series instead of stealing another one I'll have to wait 20 years for a retelling of.

And they left out Terror and Jaime.

Crap. I held off reading this thread until I finished the series only to find that this place is full of guys trying to de-stigmatize rape. WTF?

Between this and the one on the OT Friday, has me a bit worried.

With how fast they went in this one to the goal in the series of supes in the Military, do you think we only get two seasons?

Or with the Homelander's motivation changed from all about him to he can breed do we get a Superman Tyrant story now?

Not getting this Stillwell and losing the show's so fast also just seems like a corner they'll regret.

Well written, well cast show.
Paced extremely well, no dead episodes.
Not a huge fan of the ending, I'd hoped they'd have The Boys come out a little more on top.
Impressed with Quaid and Ryan's kid.
The costumes left something to be desired. Queen Mave looked like a Wonder Woman porn parody.
Homelander's breast pad disturbed me, and his cape had me thinking of Major Glory on Dexter.

Just finished binge-ing it. Loved the cast.

Never knew it was a comic book. But I am fascinated with explorations of the flawed superhero concept that Watchmen, Chronicle, and Brightburn (never saw it) dove into. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I thought this series was way more enjoyable than the Watchmen movie. Movie-level CGI, great action/thriller, solid organic humor, a little mystery/suspense, a hint of horror and a twist ending.

The cosplay costumes were about the only downside. Maybe the ending could have been more satisfying, but the twist leaves the door open for season 2, so I'm good with it.

It took me all series long to place Homelander's face. Then I realized I hadn't watched him before in anything, only that he has a familiar mouth/smile of Bradley Cooper/John Stamos.

Binged it over the weekend. I was def entertained.

Wasn't huge on the ending, but I think it fits with the narrative and look forward to seeing where they take it next season.

Well done, Amazon.

There’s another guy in the comics that more closely resembles Batman. Name is Tek Knight but he’s not a part of the 7.

Not sure where he came up with Night Train

Did I miss them explaining what Homelanders relationship to Stillwell was? I remember thinking that she may have been a milk-maid for him and other supe babies (i.e. teddy). Was I totally off on this?

That second part is possible, but mostly she’s just a manifestation of his Mommy issues from not growing up a normal child and instead in a lab with doctors. She was likely the first female presence in his life and that messed him up
