No, but if Kawhi told the Raptors he'd like them to set something up so he could have a press conference, they of course would set it up for him. For all we know it could be they know he's gone and this is a Thanks for the Trophy presser. But hopefully we'll know more in about an hour.

[Carter] #KawhiUpdate:

After looking like we would find out today, we will not. Kawhi is still undecided & is not going to finalize his decision today.

Also, contrary to other reports, Kawhi is NOT interested in signing a 1 or 2 year deal. When he signs, it will be a long term contract.

Tomorrow is the day the trade goes through with us and the Lakers and every other team involved. Lakers will feel pressure from all of us to finish the deal tomorrow. If kawhi doesn’t pick a team by then, they’ll be forced to do the deal and essentially take themselves out of the running for Kawhi because they won’t have the cap space

from a marketing perspective, it would be dumb on their part to announce on a Friday news dump the after a holiday when nobody is paying attention. No money in that.

I’d think they would wait til Monday.

This is terrible for the Lakers. If the league office opens and it's time to put in the trade, and they don't have a decision for Kawhi, it means that they've lost Kawhi, because their cap space goes down by $5 million.

They could wait longer but they’ll piss off like 20 teams because all of their agreed trades essentially revolve around the AD trade.

I wouldn't personally put money on that.

We all think Kawhi isn't taking anything less than the max, but who knows. If he is truly undecided at this moment, and then ultimately decides to join the Lakers say Tuesday of next week, I don't think the 3 or so million difference is going to make him decide against LA.

League office isn’t open until Monday so I think as long as he makes his decision before then they should be good.

They need to fill out a roster, they can't wait 3 days just for marketing purposes.

That $3-5m difference compounds over the length of the contract. So if he signs a 4 year deal, $5m short of the max this season costs him over $20m over the 4 years.

That's $3mil in year 1 with escalating raises for each additional year, so it's probably closer to $15mil.

They can't wait. It's not just us, but also the Hawks who want to be able to talk to DeAndre Hunter, and they can't even talk to him (nor us to Hayes, NAW, and Silva) until the trade goes through, much less get these guys ready to play in the summer league. Even Washington wants to talk to its new players (as do we -- Ball, Ingram, and Hart).

I read somewhere that trades can go through starting at noon eastern tomorrow, so everyone is going to expect stuff to get lined up before that. If a team needs someone to sign before the trade goes through, they need to do it quickly. There's no way that the trade can be held up for more than an hour or two -- there's too much depending on it.

So, I think that 11:00 AM Central Time is a hard deadline for the Lakers, but it realistically may be earlier than that. Again, they'll lose $5 million in cap space when the trade goes through. If the Lakers aren't getting Kawhi, they want to use that space to sign other guys!

This delay is devastating for them, assuming that they don't get Kawhi.

I mean are any of the teams going to tell him no if he wants to wait?

Kawhi isn't just going to randomly throw away millions of dollars because he can't make up his mind, and the Lakers know this, and other free agents know this. If it gets to 11:00 AM our time tomorrow and Kawhi hasn't made up his mind, I think that means that the Lakers are out and it's between the Clippers and the Raptors.

I think that the Lakers then spend their money on other guys.

I could be wrong, though. They might keep all their chips in the middle of the table.

Then factor in the tax difference between Canada and US and it's a lot closer.

Regardless, Kawhi is set to get a contract of 130+ million. If he's TRULY undecided, I don't think 15 or 20 million over the course of 4 years is going to compel him to choose what would be his second choice if the money was equal.

Lakers fans on LakersGround and LakersBall are not happy right now:

quote:

stop waiting on this flake. Trying to really screw the Lakers. AD trade is official tomorrow. Stop screwing around

quote:

What a clown

quote:

Yeah (bleep) this guy. At this point he is screwing 2 teams and other FA's over

quote:

Is KL forcing the Lakers to pull out? Making it easier for KL Decision..

quote:

This dude is worse than PG if he doesn't come.

quote:

This is the first time I’m really frustrated. There’s indecision and then there’s Kawhision.

quote:

I dunno, If the reports of him still being in Toronto and his family jumped on that plane in San Diego this morning to join him are true then I have to believe either that he's just holding the line to weaken us through the FA market or he literally doesn't want to face us to say no thank you. Again only if this is true and if that's the case I think we have a snowballs chance in hell because why would he still be there...

quote:

At least PG had the decency to announce it at the start unlike this clown

Why would Kawhi agree today but tell a team to wait til Monday to release it?

That makes no sense on many levels.

Also, and again, Kawhi would be surrendering $15mil or more just for the sake of marketing his signing on a Monday? You honestly think that makes sense?

Oh, they mad.

They were SO sure they had him in the bag, now they are looking down the possibility of not only missing out on him but losing about $4-5m in cap space in the process.
