I kid you not. Some politicians are asking the AG to take the Corps to court and stop the Bonnet Carre opening.

Hope this idea doesn't catch on.

And what happens to the MS coast if southeast Louisiana has another 1927?

Bonnet Carre or Morganza? I thought Bonnet Carre was still open.

Or do you mean they're suing to try to get the Bonnet Carre spillway to close?

quote:

Water from the Bonnet Carre Spillway is devastating the Mississippi Sound without benefit to its citizens, Coastal authories said in a meeting Tuesday (May 28). The leaders came together in Biloxi to learn how the fresh water impacts the sound and brainstorm solutions to protect their coast.

Surveys show high oyster deaths, according to Rick Burris, the deputy director of Marine Fisheries within the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources. Burris said there has been a 50 percent mortality rate, “across all reefs.”

Dolphins and endangered sea turtles have been harmed as well. Moby Solangi, president and executive director of the Institute of Marine Mammal Studies, said the freshwater from the spillway has damaged the saltwater animals’ skin and resulted in numerous deaths.

Again this is why it's important to put water policy in the hands of independent multi-state non-profit organizations that are composed of top scientists and engineers from all over.. and not controlled by state political appointees.

Army corps trumps a judge especially when levees could breech

frick them unless their solution is to blow a hole in their side of the levee and flood their state. Our seafood industry is in the same boat

Doesn't the Mississippi drain about half the state of Mississippi?

Just look at it as if we are giving them their water back.

I get the concerns MS has, they are the same issues the South LA fishermen have as well. This is harming their business, and when anyone has their business harmed, they tend to fight back.

But WTF other options do we have? Closing the BCS isn't a realistic option.

Easy fix.... just remove the bays and leave that section of the levee out at the spillway. when the river gets high, water will just go into the spillway. no need to get approval to open it.....

See how Mississippi likes that... water year round every year....
