I know after living in both states, I would take this:
over this:
Because a dollar goes a lot further in Alabama. The average pay in both states is pretty much identical, but yet the housing market is stupid in Florida.

Median is a better benchmark for HH income.

Yeahhhhh nope. Its hard to stay sane without more breaks than that.
You can do cheap vacations. They have mountain cabins and shite for barely anything.
People from Nashville rent big houses in Gatlinburg for a week for nothing.

y'all are missing the point
vacations are strictly a luxury item
when things are tight, you sacrifice the luxury items first

We just barely beat our state's average.
Good thing it's only May.

Is this where I should brag about more than doubling average in any state?

Millions of people make it happen. When you're not spoiled, it's very doable.

Above average in every state but the NE ones which is cool. It is easy to forget how fortunate I am as a SINK (single income, no kids) sometimes.

States with high minority populations won’t fare well in income, ACT, crime or other studies where averages are used. Go figure.
Drill down into the demographics of the NE, Mid-West and PNW and you will find your answer.

Most people in a rural settings either inherit a home or live in a mobile home. So their fixed cost is low. You can live very well on 65k with no mortgage.

One should always use the median rather than the mean for household income, because a small number of very rich people can drive the mean upwards but not the median.
What I'm saying is that the typical household income is SUBSTANTIALLY LOWER than those numbers suggest.

SINK really skews things. I’m in the same boat and have to remember that.

compare buying power in each state and some interesting data will pop up.

Mine is 10X the Texas Average and I'm barely getting by

We’re below average in LA, but we’re trending up.
