So, other threads got hijacked by losers. Let's talk basketball ONLY on this one. Big thing I've been wondering of late -- let's say Jrue and Tatum are the core pieces as you have agreed to the trade on June 14th. Will be executed after the moritorium.

Yes, you will get other pieces from the Celtics but those are your core players. You got the draft in front of you,.free agency, and a trade market that you can be active in next February. What are the SKILL SETS you are putting around those two to build the best team possible?

Are those gonna be your top two usage guys on a very good team or does one of them move down to #3 or 4 ideally? Is Tatum a finishing 3 or 4 at end of games?

How would you build around those two?

Well huge part will be determined by assets we're able to acquire. Its not always what we wish to put together but what we're actually able to acquire and use skill sets accordingly.

Depending on the contract he demands I would like to keep Niko if Jrue and Tatum are part of my core.

Ball handling, creation off the dribble, catch and shoot 3s, rebounding.

I thinks early to say whether Tatum can be the man or not. I like him. I think ideally he's 2nd or 3rd on your team but its still early.

First I need a primary ball handler that can create. Jrue isn't that guy.

Second I need a guy that can knock down 3s. I don't care if that is at the 2 or 4. We need someone with gravity.

Third I need a big that can run the floor but can rebound rebound rebound.

I find a way to get Bradley Beal. Jrue / Beal / Tatum in the post Durant GSW days gives you a chance to compete with anyone.

At the start I'd kind of want to surround them with 3 and d guys and pg who's a facilitater but can score when those 2 are being doubled or whatever I'd want a mostly offensive bench who can get a stop here and there and if niko is still in the scenario he's your quasi starter so Tatum doesn't have to guard 4s

Need a rim protector to let Jrue do his perimeter thing (preferably one that has a semblance of a perimeter shot)and need a point to run the offense. I think Tatum will have issues if given too much responsibility creating/directing the offense at his age. I’d treat Tatum more like the Warriors use Klay to start, running him around off screens and DHO’s.

Since it has worked for Boston, I would push for Brown and Smart while letting Tatum typically finish at the 4 depending on the matchup.

Smart-Jrue-Brown-Tatum-Rim Protector is an interesting lineup that could be special defensively while still playing uptempo.

I agree. I'd go lower usage guys who can impact the game without taking or making shots. My fear is that this team acquires too much talent that impact the game most by scoring.

I agree, and i'd love Beal, but what 2 guys are you getting to play with them?

You need someone who can distribute the basketball. If you put a PG out there, like Elfrid, that means someone is going to have to guard a big unless whoever you're playing matches up small ball with you.
If you don't put a PG out there, then you'd have to have an offense that can really be about ball movement and everyone sort of "creating", which is not an easy thing to do. The Spurs do that well. We don't have Popovich.
A lineup of those 3 with Niko would have great offense, but would need a banger to play the 5. Mahinmi isn't some great center by any means, but I think he could be useful in this role for a team like that, or even Biyombo. But you couldn't have Niko play the 5 with those 3 guys.

Long story short, if Jrue is on this team, and we get Tatum, Beal doesn't really fit us well.
You do the Knicks trade and i'd gladly bring in Beal too.
Assuming we get Zion, he should be the PG, but defending the 4, like Simmons is capable of. Then you can have Jrue/Beal/Niko and then you just need a rim protector.

Assuming Mirotic can be brought back anywhere between 11-15m/yr, I'd start there. Payton hasn't exactly played his way into a payday this offseason since coming back from injury. I'd love it if we could keep him around as well as a backup at minimum. You got another year out of Okafor, Jackson, and Kenrich locked down. Assuming you have 3 1sts for instance in this draft...be nice to have a little variety in "ability to compete right away/high floor" guys and some "high ceiling/low floor guys".

I'd also love to see Tatum get the opportunity to be the high usage #1, especially late. Let's see what the kid can do. There's only one way to find out.

I'd like to see an enforcer/effort type player. Someone who will come off of the bench and just go all out for every second he's on the court (diving for lose balls, setting the hard picks, busting arse to get back on D even if it looks like an easy fast break bucket). A guy who's energy who gets the fans and other teammates excited.

Stretch 4. You need that type to open the paint for Jrue. Niko would be perfect with those two. Then like everybody else I need a distributor (Rubio).

Another thing that matters to me as much as the starter alignment:

Quality Depth. This team has never had it under Demps.

I like that. I would love if the Clippers start shedding guys to get more cap room and we could land Montrezl Harrell.

Yess, enforcer bruiser type. Catch a shoot type either in keeping mirotic and a guy like Moore. And a good distributor that don't really care about his shot, as long as the team gets theirs. Good defender as well.

I love Harrell. The guy fights his arse off downlow. Yes he has limitations but if you have some guys that can bomb he's a good piece.

Haven't watched much of Tatum so I don't know how he really plays. But guard play with an offensive game more complex than Paytons and Rondos I think is important in today's game. Seems like the play with the 4 and 5 can be less than elite players. Which is one reason why I'd rather Morant over Zion. Someone at the 4/5 who can pass and defend the pnr seems the hot new thing. And for the heck of it, I like Nassir Little in the draft as well. Seems like Jrue and him would get along with their defense.

Montraz Harrell
Kyle O'Quinn
And im' sure you could find a kid in the draft that could do that.
