Going to Doctor Thursday but had to do to much today and tomorrow is booked for work and too important to miss..so need some Doc thoughts.

Went to help a friend do some concrete work at his church and fell while climbing scaffolding. I reached out and caught myself but all my weight while falling stopped by my grabbing a beam but I felt instant shoulder pain. Like striking sharp pain. So it died some after a bit unless I moved it outwards or too high up but is okay if kept lower even was able to carry things if not lifted outwards or up past mid stomach.

It's swollen and red, the pain is pretty much what I felt during my MCL tear when standing, if I move my arm wrong, but not sure if it's that severe yet. Does pulling your shoulder generally cause this many problems or did I likely do something worse? I'm icing and then heating it for now and it's helping a little but not enough.

TL DR
How can I tell if my shoulder is sprained, torn, or just pulled

You need PT, not OT, help.

You're not really going to know without an mri, but its going to heal very slowly. There's very little blood flow to the shoulder

I had a shoulder injury a few years ago. I couldn't stand up for long periods of time without it starting with these extremely painful shooting pains and going up my neck. I went to orthopedists, spine doctors, therapists, chiro's, etc. with countless xrays and MRI's and NOBODY could ever tell me what the cause was.

Amputation is the only recourse.

I don't know shite about medicine, but I'd guess that you fricked up your labrum. Your shite is gonna sublux whether it's torn or stretched. Be ready to say "AAAAAAAAAAAHHHH" when you reach for shite without thinking about your unstable shoulder.

You need an mri to see if it's torn. If it's just loose, you might can tighten it with a few pounds of dumbbells and some funky exercises.

The church and/or your friend might have some insurance to pay for your surgery.

Probably a labrum tear. I've had 3 (2 right 1 left) and it's a bunch of fun I tell ya.

I pulled a muscle in my back one time so I can sympathize.

Seriously though you might have torn the labrum or bicep muscle.

Well I dont think it’s your sits (rotator cuff muscles)

I wouldn’t be too surprised if there some anterior subluxation which could explain why you can’t bring your arm up like you are wanting

Man, shoulder injuries hurt like hell and last a while if you don’t seek help. About 8 years ago I was pulling on a tire tool so hard on som elocked up lug nuts that it felt like my shoulder tore open. I just let it rest and tried not to do too much with the right side for a few months. It took that long to feel better and return to normal.
In retrospect, I should have seen a doctor about it.

Sounds like a rotator cuff tear to me. Enjoy surgery and 18 months of recovery
