Either God cannot prevent bad things from happening, which means he's not omnipotent.
Or
He can prevent bad things from happening and chooses not to, which makes him indifferent at best, and a sadist at worst.

Why even go to the hospital in the first place?

If that's what you have to tell yourself to try to fathom Him, then more power to you.

Spare 5 minutes to watch this video.
It's at least thought provoking.

Well boys, time to pack it up. No need to study medicine or science, we got the power of positive thought and prayer on our side now.

It had more to do with the belief of the people praying for her to be healed than it did with Jesus.

And when it comes back it's that Jesus and his daddy's fault right

Yeah let's just ignore the actual treatment she was getting and give credit to Jesus deciding she should live b/c some of her neighbors might have prayed. He would have totally let her die otherwise b/c he's a hard arse like that.

I have a story like this from the 70’s. It’s actually my mom’s story.
When my mom was kid, one of her friends had a brain tumor and eventually slipped into a coma.
The family was told there is no hope for recovery and he’s going to die.
One day the kid woke up from his coma and said he was hungry. Of course everyone was shocked. That was amazing enough, and then he said he “went to Heaven and St. Peter and St. Paul were fighting over me and couldn’t decide so they sent me back.” And when they ran tests they discovered his tumor was gone. It really was a miracle. This kid was on death’s door and made a full recovery.
Also, his family was not religious and the kid was not familiar with “St. Peter and St. Paul”, which adds to the mystery.

Praise a god!
Now, if it comes back, can we say this god is an a-hole or is it just "Mysterious Ways?"

Let's ignore the statistics that say they don't.
What would they help? Doesn't "god" have a perfect plan and know everything that will ever happen already? What are you praying for? Him to change his plan?
Again, the arrogance is fun to watch.

Reminds me of a family member who had some non-criminal legal issues and eventually it all worked out in their favor.
Of course, all credit went to god instead of the lawyer who helped them through every step of the process and negotiated a great deal for free as a favor.

If the tumor comes back, will all this be some supernatural practical joke?
You're healed!
Psyche!

This was probably not a DIPG. There have been a handful of kids that have survived diagnosis of DIPG. However most Nuero-Oncologist would tell you that it was not a DIPG just some type of tumor with similar pathology and location in the brain stem. It was probably a low grade Glioma.

I am always amused by the arrogance on the part of the "just a coincidence" crowd. Yeah, it may be. It also may be that prayer actually helped.
I think it comes from both sides. For example, look at the title of this thread:
quote:
Girl with inoperable brain tumor healed by prayer.
If it's arrogance on the part of the non-believer to affirmatively state that it's a coincidence, is it arrogance on the part of the believer to affirmatively state that she was healed by prayer?

The reason jesus and religion were made was to be a means of keeping people in the world motivated for a "purpose"
if there was no god, religious people would have nothing to live for.
I’ll pray for you.

Miracles can and do happen with regularity.
Yes, medical miracles, made possible by millions of men and women over the years by intensive study, trial and error, and advancements in that field.
We’ve gone from
To being able to save people who are almost surely doomed, and make them well again.
So let’s thank the doctors and nurses and researchers. Positive attitudes help and i’ll Never denigrate the role the Church serves with places like St. Jude and other hospitals...but let’s not pretend that it happens in a vacuum.
That’s faith healing bupkis which has been proven to be a sham.

We agree.

However, there is no supernatural anything sitting in a room in heaven just dictating things for less than a 1/4 of earth's population. It's amazing to me how many people choose to ignore all logic when it comes to religious beliefs.
You don't know that, and neither do they. To say that "there is no..." requires the belief that you know everything there is to know about the universe. You don't.
