Right for $8 per person (not sure of the kid prices as mine is free still) it's not bad. It'd be so expensive to move, I'd just put some of that money into fixing up the current zoo.

hey tried moving it to St George but people pitched a fit. It would have probably been a decent zoo in South BR

You think your zoo sucks, you should check out Athens's zoo 'Bear Hollow Zoo'.

I guarantee it will make your zoo seem like Jurassic Park.

We took my kids to boo at the zoo today. I’m not saying it’s great, but it’s not as terrible as everybody on here makes it out to be.

The New Orleans zoo is better, but frick driving to New Orleans every time you want to take the kids to do a little something.

Audubon Zoo has a pretty large endowment and is very well supported by the city.

BR Zoo has always been kind of an afterthought around here and treated like the poor stepchild. BREC just hired the architects for the Greenwood Park and the Zoo.

Just to expand, the zoo operates similarly to BREC golf courses, more a community charity than a self-sustaining business (paraphrasing from an actual study by consulting firm BREC hired to help improve the golf course system; will post if I can find it again).

Problem with that model in a state like LA or parish/city such as EBR, there will never be excess funds to improve or even maintain the facility as necessary to keep customers coming...

Just leave to rot in NBR. Who gives a frick. Tards are running the city so I’d suggest moving.

We went today and thought it was just fine. It's not the best zoo, but this is Baton Rouge so I'm not sure what you are expecting.

This. My soon to be 4 year old loves it when I take her there. It’s not the Audobon Zoo, but for a place to enjoy with your small kids, it’s fine. I’m just glad that we have one.

Another red stick attraction that fails.

It was a decent zoo for 20+ years. The city just didn't stay invested in it.

You are right it would have been very expensive but they had backers willing to help pay for it. Those same backers are not willing to pay to renovate it so it will continue just like it is for another 20 years.

My kids love it. That's all I care about. It's close to my house and cheap entertainment for them

Took the kid there for Boo at the Zoo. He enjoyed it, but many of the animal enclosures need remodeling, and to be honest many of the animals looked depressed as odd as it sounds.

more a community charity

Interesting. High property taxes referred to as a "charity". I didn't realize I was being charitable when being forced to pay taxes I disagree with.

Went to summer zoo camp back in middle school. Made out with one of the counselors all the time over by the monkey cages. She was in high school. By the end of the summer, got a through the shorts handy.

BREC stopped investing in it. They wanted to move it so they let it go to complete crap.
