I mined the diamonds myself in Africa

I would probably just play it straight with an engagement ring(I went to Patrick's in St Francisville), but a little thought goes a long way.

Went to a gem mining place in the blue ridge with the family. Thought it would be Grizwold cheesy, but we had a ball. We took some of the stones and had them cut there. They came out really nice but sat in a drawer for a couple of years. One anniversary I took the aquamarine we "mined" and had it set and surprised her with it. You would've sworn it was the hope diamond with her reaction.

Future MIL gave me her old ring. She upgraded for her 25 year anniversary, and my (now) wife had her eye on the original for years.

I went to a guy who deals directly with a diamond whole seller. His prices and quality were comparable to Blue Nile (also GIA certified), so I just went with him because I could deal in person and he gave a cash discount.

I think I spent around 2.5 months salary at the time.

First wife, Adler’s 9k. 2nd wife, independent jeweler in Hammond, 1800. 2nd wife was much more appreciative of her cheapo ring vs. first wife’s and her expensive one.

Another Blue Nile FTW.

Ive never had it appraised, appraisals seem like a bunch of bs just for insurance. Ive never seen a piece of jewelry sell for what it appraised for or even close.

I didnt spend much, but didnt have much when I bought it.

Pretty much the same thing here. The Blue Nile process was incredibly easy. Do a little research about diamonds and see where you can save some money.

They let you see tons of high quality pics of the actual diamond you'd be buying. You can also ask that they take ASET images for you of a couple of diamonds that you like.

Haven't bought from them, but have been looking at Sanghavi Solitaire. Pricing is excellent and if they don't have what you want in stock, you can give them the GIA number or specs you are looking for and they will find and quote it.

Zales. Staff was helpful and the GF was reasonable on price when picking her ring which was super helpful.
