I used a guy in L.A. who works through a large salon. I told him the cut and approximate amount I had to spend, and he sent over 5-6 diamonds. I didn't pay attention to the grades given. I just did the eye test and had the girls working there look at them. I think I saved $3k maybe more by doing this and I didn't have to pay tax.

If I had to do over again, this is what I'd do. Go to pawn shops find a ring at a fraction of the cost. ( because they acutaully have little value, "used" diamond rings are sold for pennies on the dollar) take ring to jewelry store and have them put diamond in a newer nicer setting

I've heard there's a 800% markup on jewelry

A lot of diamonds these days are so expensive because women think the "conflict free" diamonds are so much better. It's all psychological though. You'd have to be very experienced to even tell a difference. Go with the conflict diamonds and save a good bit.

Robbins Brothers. $15k.

The band was custom designed by me, her sister, and a jeweler. She loves it and gets compliments on it weekly by random women.

I went to Jared because the TV told me to. Paid about 70% of what it appraised for (not that that means anything as it is only for insurance purposes)

Did he have a store front or was it just some random dude?

He has an office in the lakefront tower in Metairie. It's like a low key lawyer office except for the CIA looking file cabinets behind his desk where keeps all the stones. Yarmulke and everything. Super nice guy, very accomodating. Went back and got ear studs when we had our first kiddo.

The ring doesn't matter...it's how you propose. Try this...throw a corpse, dressed like you, off of the roof. It hits the ground, its head pops off...this leads to you saying the line, "I lost my head when I fell in love with you".

...sticking with The Office proposal theme...it's a sure-fire winner

I got the stone from a diamond dealer friend of my parents and the setting was made by a jeweler in Lafayette our of platinum and yellow gold. It cost a lot.
