That just sounds fiscally responsible.

As a former restaurant employee, it's true in most all cases. When I was a server, I still gave the same service no matter what but there were others that you could tell were just phoning it in.

If I get exceptional service it's 25-30% of the bill. If I get average service it's 15%, and poor service get's whatever the wife says - lol

exact same thing for us.
my wife spent her entire college life working in the restaurant industry. So i always get the final tip % okay from her. Sometimes I will have sympathy for waiters or bartenders when she says, "nah, frick them. 1-2% at most" and give them a couple bucks, because i feel bad about how she treated them.

I agree and welcome the resulting price increase.

nah, i don't think they would increase by much, if at all. if they did, people would just stop eating out, which is probably a good thing

I would also say, that in this day and age where "WHITE" is the enemy of the left and their sheeple, blacks automatically tip low to a white server vs. black.

I have an Ethiopian friend who serves at Cheesecake factory in ATL, she said they sometimes separately equally distribute black customers among the servers to equally divide out the shitty tips. Rather than just assign that table to the next server up

That's just naive, but irrelevant as it will never happen in America.

The solution is simple.

Get rid of the concept of tipping.

White people generally have more disposable income.

Water is free

Lots of restaurants do mid week deals to get people in the door to drink. The last thing a server wants is 8 people ordering water on an already cheap tab

I once saw a black server flip the frick out on a hostess for giving her all the black tables.
The black server used words I cannot.

That's when I realized that it was true.

When I was waiting tables during my college years we called a table with black people a BT short for black top. No servers wanted BTs it didn't matter if the server was black or white. I would say at least 80% of the time tips would be less than 10% of the tab. Pentecostals were just as bad at tipping. And yes if you aren't going to be a good tipper you won't get as good service. This was 20 years ago though so maybe it isn't as bad now.

the solution is to pay servers a competitive wage and not compel patrons to subsidize your restaurant while bending us over with $15 cocktails and glasses of wine.

eating out is already outrageous, they can afford it.

Overall, profit margins at restaurants are not great. Start up is expensive and turning a profit to begin is impossible. Restaurants also have the highest fail rate of any business in the country.

1) Studies show that black people do indeed tip less

No fricking shite

2) Black people get inferior service because they are black and there exists a stigma that they tip less

No fricking shite

3) the Washington Post thinks that they tip less because they simply haven't been told they should tip more (than sometimes nothing at all)

quote:

4) Point #3 is based on a study that showed that white people on average think a suitable tip is 14.5% and black people on average believe that number to be 13.4%. That 1.1% difference in appropriate tipping expectations is supposed to explain the disparity

No way there is ONLY a 1.1% difference. Perhaps they "think" that but they certainly dont action that

quote:

5) The solution is simply to get the word out that a tip should be more

Yeah. That won't work.

The server waited on 7 people for an hour and was tipped as if she waited on 1 person. Theme of the thread, right
