First part of lawsuit -

quote:

On August 21, 2017, a self-described “Concerned Parent” emailed the Office of
Greek Life at Louisiana State University (“LSU”) to report:
The Sigma Nu pledge class was made to drink alcohol at the Sigma Nu house until each pledge member vomited. This occurred on boys bid night, August 20th, 2017. I was made aware of this yesterday, when a mother of a pledge (who has dropped out because of this) shared this information with me. As a parent of a pledge of another fraternity, I am very angry that this has occurred and I know
that it will likely continue. I do not want to hear that someone’s son is dead due
to alcohol poisoning, and I expect someone to investigate this incident ASAP and put an end to hazing at LSU.

2. LSU’s Greek Accountability team “decided there was not enough information to investigate the case,” and closed its file on the incident. LSU’s failure to even investigate this parent’s ominous warning reflects its long-standing deliberate indifference to the hazing of male students in its fraternities, despite the severe, pervasive risks of serious injuries and death those
students face when they seek educational benefits and opportunities through LSU Greek Life.

I'm sure they get emails like that fairly often, but Gruver was dead 10 days later. That's a bad start.

You choose what goes into your mouth. And you also choose your 'friends'

Title IX eh? That will be interesting.

They are totally fricked if they go that route. LSU has a zero tolerance policy for hazing and have proven they will boot chapters for doing it.

I feel for their loss, but these people are trying to destroy the entire Greek system in Louisiana m, because their son joined a loser fraternity.

Maybe the parents should have taught their son not to drink himself unconscious.

Despite what non-Greek affiliated people say, having a strong Greek life is very important to the University's health.

A huge percentage of donors went through the Greek system and upper-middle class kids, especially out of state ones, often choose colleges based on Greek system. You want as many out of state upper-middle class kids with full out-of-state tuition paying parents as you can get.

Can’t believe some of you are actually blaming the poor kid. His possible future “BROTHERS” were getting him to keep chugging ever clear....He probably had little experience with alcohol beforehand and didn’t think his “friends” would tell him to do something that would potentially kill him.

Idk why people are acting like this is without precedent. Bars are sued for over serving paying adults. This case may have legal merit.

We can criticize the laws, but that's a different story.

In those cases, the employees over serving are being paid by the bar.

I'm not sure there is the same connection between students/LSU and students/National Frat

Pounding shots of 97.5% alcohol will do that if you have enough in a short time.

I went through fraternity and hazing and I know several guys from several fraternities who told the fraternity and older actives to frick off and quit when they didn't want to do stupid shite.

You're always free to do that.
