Very few people even insure their lives for $1 million, much less $25 million.

Maybe I’m misremembering but didn’t the fraternity cut the guy, kick him out, whatever, and the mom threatened them to let him back in?

The man went through rush and no fraternity picked him up. That is hard to imagine that NO ONE would pledge the man.

His mom called Greek Affairs and asked/begged/whatever for them (Greek Affairs) to find a place for him.

Forced? That will be interesting to prove in court.

Don’t they have some video? I may be mistaken but IIRC the story is that they kept handing him more strong drinks when he was already beyond pickled, barely coherent, and telling him to drink.

Pretty fricked up thing to do to a severely drunk person.

Mom has always come off as a trouble maker. She wants to see everything associated to LSU burn.

I didn’t know he wasn’t picked up by anyone. I had heard the cut and let back after a call from mom rumor. I hope all this shite comes out in the trial. If it’s true that his mom kept sticking her nose in there then I can see why they’d dislike him and target him.

I don't know if there is video.

The toxicology report listed THC in Max's system. Rumor has it that Max was into his pot..really into it.

How this plays out in court is interesting, if it makes it that far. I belive..totally my thoughts...that Max's family wrote down a number to settle. LSU looked at it and said "no." Max's family threaten a lawsuit. LSU called the hand.

LSU doesn't want the bad publicity. Max's family does not want Max's drug issues to be in the public. The amount of drugs in his system and found in his dorm room could damage the case.

Eventually, I believe the parties will settle for an undisclosed amount out of court. My guess is between $5 to $10 million.

I agree with you on pretty much everything except the relevance of THC in his system. That’s a non issue. He could eat three pounds of weed and be better off at making decisions than he was well before his BAC was up to .495.

Courts are stacked with fraternity and sorority members. Good luck.

Who is on the jury is all that matters, if this goes to court and there is even a single college graduate on the jury much less someone that was in a fraternity or sorority it would be unusual. A jury of your peers rarely occurs in real life which is why the school will settle.

Of course this lawsuit doesn't sit over well with yall tigerdrops.

If this same scenario happened at a different school, say Bama or Auburn, yall tiger droppings would fricking love this lawsuit. But since it is against LSU, yall tiger droppings are against it.

"The reality at LSU is that male students like Max face the risk of serious injury and death when they seek educational benefits and opportunities offered through LSU's Greek letter fraternity system, and the risk to male students at LSU is likely far worse than the television portrayals," according to the lawsuit.

Yeah.

Your kid begged you to pay for the fees for the educational opportunities.

This piece makes it sound like they push for Greek life, which is bullshite unless something has changed in the decade since I’d been there.

I know this sounds harsh, and I feel for the kid and his family that he died because of one bad decision.

However, it was just that, his decision, to drink what any 18-year-old knows is beyond a safe amount.

The parents should get nothing. This wasn't LSUs or the frat's fault. It was Gruver's own poor judgement that killed him.

And just for the record, I was a GDI at LSU, so no frat allegiance although I don't have anything against those who enjoy Greek life.

He was hazed. Many have been hazed. Some have been harmed. LSU always told them not to haze after someone was harmed. They did little to monitor, or enforce their no hazing policy. This is why they will pay.

Yep. If the entire fraternity system is responsible, what does this say about our educational institutions in general?

No 18 year old is truly an adult. They are still kids in a man's body. Their brain isn't fully developed to adult status until mid 20's. Like it or not, that's the truth.

I'd imagine punitive damages are a large part of that number.

Many in our beloved country want to completely eliminate personal responsibility and instead want to have more institutional control. This is a slippery slope. Individual freedom comes with a price, and we cannot have it both ways. That said, as a dad myself, I feel much compassion and empathy for the young man’s parents.
