Maybe I’m misremembering but didn’t the fraternity cut the guy, kick him out, whatever, and the mom threatened them to let him back in?

That will bring him back. The guy chose to participate as an adult in stupid shite that was presented to him. It's a sad and unfortunate situation but 25 million? Come on.

Well you've got to start somewhere.

The sad part is they're going to go through all kind of bullshite and may not even be awarded shite. But even if they do, it's not like they're going to wake up the next day and feel any better about their son being gone. It's overcompensation to deal with the grief.

Peer pressure is a powerful thing, and once the kid had a few drinks in him can what happened afterward be considered his choice? A number of college kids have been charged with sexual assault because the girl was drunk and unable to make a rational decision, this is no different.

Maybe they'll settle for F. King's removal instead?

The reality at LSU is that male students like Max face the risk of serious injury and death when they seek educational benefits and opportunities offered through LSU's Greek letter fraternity system, and the risk to male students at LSU is likely far worse than the television portrayals," according to the lawsuit.

Amazing how free will and associated consequences get tossed out the window. Its not like they tied him down and forced him to drink.

This is a sad situation. It has rightfully sparked new laws and criminal prosecution. You would hope it is forcing a change of mentality not only at LSU, but across the country.

But with all due respect to the family, their child is not innocent. No one tied him up and poured it down his throat. He, along with many other people, made terrible, horrible decisions.

He paid for his bad decision with his life. The others are paying for their bad decisions with prosecutions, expulsion, etc.

Suing everyone around for $25 million doesn't do anything to fix any of this. It doesn't punish people more than they have already been punished. It doesn't prove a point. It doesn't serve as a detriment. This would be a very nasty trial that will bring up a lot of bad feelings for the family. I just don't understand it.

If this family so desired, they could do a lot of good - nationwide - preaching the dangers of this hazing crap and underage excessive drinking. This just is in poor taste.

Thats a ridiculous standard to go by. Too often its the one that complains first that wins- as both are often too drunk to consent.

Eta:ridiculous standard, not you

What would you put as the value of your own son?

I was on a jury (Forman) on a medical malpractice suit. The toughest part of the deliberations was putting a value on the deceased. Many factors had to be considered and opinions varied greatly.
I'm glad I'm not involved with this one.

It may not be 25 mil....BUT you can bet your arse that LSU and Phi Delta Theta will be running to the table to settle for 15+ mil.

I guess it depends how lenient LSU has been on previous violations. They deserve a chance to make their case. We'll see.

Define “risk-management violation.”

By that do they mean citations for underage in possession and/or public intoxication?

If so that is just something that sounds far worse using those terms than it is in reality. It tries to conflate a few Minor In Possession chafes with the outlandish shite this particular one did.

Filed by a Michigan firm (lead). Local firm assisting is Cazayoux Ewing Law Firm. Don't know anything about them.

Link to Lawsuit

Edit: One of these attorneys went to LSU.

Look, I am sorry this guy died but nobody made him drink. He had the right to refuse and just say no I’m not doing it.

Idk why people are acting like this is without precedent. Bars are sued for over serving paying adults. This case may have legal merit.

We can criticize the laws, but that's a different story.
