I'm going to start off with a huge shocker. They're not fat compared to us. Really, for the most part, they're not fat at all. I know, shocking right?
And these people eat tons of ice cream, cheese, bread, beer, french fries served with mayonnaise on it. There are ice cream shops everywhere and they were all busy! They have MacDonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut, KFC etc...
They smoke a lot. Europe in Germany/France/Switz is not on the non-smoking bandwagon. Ashtrays at every restaurant we went to. It was crazy how much they smoke.
By what they consume and smoke they are thinner than we are but do not seem to live a healthier lifestyle.
Yes a lot of them commute by bike and walk a lot but give me a fricking break. Their 110 calories extra they burn is not enough. It's something else.
Their portions are way smaller than ours. And those fast food restaurants are few and far between. Most of their meals are small, home cooked meals. And for a lot of European areas, their food is farm-to-table local stuff, not processed crap.
Source: work a lot in Europe. Their eating habits are way fricking better.

Yeah I thought it was common knowledge that Europeans eat better than us. And yes they walk much more. Nothing mysterious about it.

I also like their highway speed enforcement system. They position cameras that track the time it takes your vehicle to reach the next checkpoint. If you reach the next checkpoint faster than the posted speed allows, you get a ticket.
It's very big brotherish but certainly kept traffic moving at a safe, uniform speed. Highways were well maintained and I did not see one crash.

Oh and they are not diverse. Lots of white people around. Kind of like South Dakota. But remember kids, we're racist...
I travel to Europe 2-4 times a month. My take is much different. I tell my friends that have never been not to expect the Europe they see in books. It is diversified to the point of cultural meltdown. I returned from Dublin just last week and saw evidence of this going on even there. It’s really sad to see these historic cultures being overrun.

Switzerland is fantastic. One of my favorite countries that I've been to. They have a culture to be admired in many ways.

I traveled to southern France around two years ago and felt similar when it came to portion size and walking. I didn't have snacks, processed food, readily available to me everywhere. Also when we sat down for lunch/dinner I noticed the food was served in courses and the portion sizes were smaller. You consume less food overall but in a longer time frame. Here in the U.S. everything comes out at once and you eat quickly. I never felt full or bloated but always left feeling satisfied. There was always bread and wine as well. Also never ordered any soda, just drank water/sparkling water.

Get out of here with this big brother shite. I don’t want the government tracking where I’m going and how fast I’m going. I know it happens here in the states and I hate it. Leave that crap back across the Atlantic

Sounds like you went to Europe for 10 days and used Wikipedia to fill in a few spots.
Before I went I asked the travel board about speaking English. They said it wouldn't be a problem. It wasn't. Our tour guide told us the main language is Swiss-German. Not German but Swiss-German then French, Italian, and Romanish. Everyone in Switzerland for 3 days we were there spoke English.
