So can I just bring my kayak to the lake, drop it in, and go? Anyone else here enjoy water sports in the lake?

Yes.

I prefer the kayak launch in Bayou Fountain at Highland Road Park because it's shady.

Yes, but don't fall out of it. Swimming is illegal in the LSU lakes....

This is really random, but my wife and I put a small bateau in, paddled to the middle on a fairly dark night, and had a great time

I've always been curious about this. Never see anyone out there.

It’s got a decent flow when the water is high so you need a ride back upstream.

I've kayaked in there before. The lakes are really shallow. You can easily touch the bottom with your paddle at any spot in the lake.

I was people kayaking in the LSU lakes the past two weekends. Last week it was only one person out there, this past weekend when I passed, it was 5 or 6... maybe more. I don't think you need any type of permit or anything to do it, just go there and get in the water.
