Is linked in worth anything?

Made an account when I was in college for an assignment. I have never used it because it seems like it’s just another Facebook type of BS.
Has linked in ever provided any Benefits for you to actually use it or is it just for aggravating sales people trying to show off?

My company posts job opening there. Pretty sure our last hire came from there

You have one and have your personal data on there, so yeah it’s worth something.

It's a great tool, if you use it well.

I found my wife a new job on there from job postings I received.

Three job interviews and one new job, 100% from LinkedIn.

my wife looked a former classmates profile, he saw that, reached out to her and offered her a job making 50% more than she was currently making, now she's the bread winner
yes, it's worth something

I’m about to move back to Louisiana in 3 months and I’ve been using it for job searching/stalking people with my job title at companies i’d Like to work for. While I haven’t been successful in landing a position yet, I find it is an additional tool to use in the job hunt process of whoring yourself out.

Helps to network with people in my industry (O&G) plus if I haven't met a person before a meeting, I can find them on LinkedIn and see what they look like so I can know who to look for.

It is extremely valuable to anyone who uses it well.

It's good for 3 things.
1) Keeping up with former colleagues to see who has gone where.
2) Getting your name and experience into god knows how many searches run by recruiters who exclusively use LinkedIn.
3) Reading posts from bad recruiters who complain when people don't respond to their spammy messages.
LinkedIn has made the recruiting industry extremely lazy, but it provides too much visibility into too many opportunities to disregard it in my opinion.

If you are looking for a job, yes.
Otherwise...meh

quote:huh no. You build the connections all the time, even when not actively looking. That way when you're looking, it makes it easier. And you never know what might come around via connection when you're not searching.

I get legitimate job opportunities almost every week to two weeks on LinkedIn regardless of whether I am looking or not.
The feature they launched that allows you to say “I’m open to opportunities” is awesome. It plays a surprisingly large role in the search algorithm and I saw an immediate uptick when I flipped it on.
I hate that so much crap is posted on it and the feed looks like Facebook now. The worst are the people who copy posts from someone else and then repost as their own...until you get to the very bottom where they may say they stole it from someone. LinkedIn has too much clickbait nonsense; they are driving interaction at the expense of the core use case of the platform.

I have that feature checked and haven't received anything promising.

It depends on your industry.
For a small paper company trying to increase their exposure and sales, it’s perfect.

It is by far the easiest way to have jobs find you.

Had an account up until middle of last year, then decided to delete it. Only did so to reduce my digital footprint somewhat. Really would love to do the same with FB. I will say, though, there were at least three times where I applied for a job, then did some research to learn who the hiring manager for that job was, reached out to express my interest in the job and ultimately got hired for two of those at least partly because of that connection. So there's that.

It's how I landed my current job. It's really big in my field.

Great for scoping out dates from online dating prior to meeting, that’s about the extent of the functional use I get out of it.
