It’s defi Pistol #1
We can argue Shaq vs Pettit.
Admittedly I never saw Bob play but I’d put him at 2

This could easily become a top 10 downvote record

Ah, but who would coach them?
Duke would beat us.
As would john wooden.

Use to watch him play as a freshman at the old Cow Barn. The freshman team attendance was much higher. He and his friends use to come to the Southdowns in his old Beetle. It was funny watching the basketball players getting out of that car.

dammit! i don't think the "who would coach?" question was ever brought up to me before right now.
guess we'd have to play the game in a schoolyard somewhere.
pick-up game. no coaches.

Nice. Your grammar matches your LSU basketball player ranking skills.

Bob Pettit higher than Chris Jackson but nobody higher than Pete. My friend at work called me and said sit down. Told me about Pete.

The greatest without a doubt. No one, even to this day, has ever had the ball handling and passing skills of The Pistol.

Same here. It was tough to get a ticket most time because the "cow barn" only sat about 3,500 or so if I remember correctly. After the freshman game ended, it seemed like half the crowd would leave. By halftime, and the varsity down by 20, half those would leave. By the end of the game there would only be about 500 or so left.
A lot of people forget about Pete's uncanny ability to pass. Great passer! I will always remember his dirty off white droopy socks. He wouldn't wash them during the season.

To be fair, there are few left who saw him play. In addition, so many younger folks in our day and time regard anyone or anything that happened prior to their birth as irrelevant, at best.
Pete Maravich AVERAGED 44+ points per game over his career at LSU with NO three-point line/arc. No one comes close. Don't forget his assists and the way he could dribble, then make the ball disappear right before defenders' eyes. He mastered the "no-look-pass" while Magic Johnson was still in kindergarten.

Yes, Pete was our best ever and his records may never fall.
But LSU has been really blessed in basketball talent despite not being a basketball school.
Pete
Shaq
CJ
Petit
Sparky Wade, yes back in the day when we won the NC, he was the best there was.
A great from a diffeent era

Dale Brown did an analysis of PPs shots and he would have averaged 10-12 more pts per game had there been a 3 pt line.
Saw him once ... amazing.

pick almost anyone else to ever play forward for LSU
Not picking Ben Simmons as that forward would be moronic.

Simmons isn't close.
The list isn't about talent, it's about production. Simmonds had nice stats, but not great stats or great results.
Simmons was more of a role player in that with 20 seconds left on the clock he was resolved to being a playmaker first and not a scorer.
With 20 seconds left and down 1, All the others listed were going to get the ball. There was no doubt they could be relied upon to score.

How about Landers Nolley?
RIP to Pete's family & friends, hard to believe it's been that long ago since he passed away.
I was in the Dome in '78 when he hurt his knee against Buffalo.

One night the center (forgot his name) was not watching Pete on fast break because he was to Pete's far left and on the wing, Pete threw a behind back pass to him which hit him in the side of the head!
