If i've posted it once, i've posted it 20 times on here. Only UNC & UCLA would have a prayer in beating LSU's all time team. And to the "get off of my lawn/my way or the highway" idiots on here, yes ole Ben Simmons would EASILY fit in on this team because of his unselfish playing style. I'm not sure any school could beat our all time team!

30 years ago. Damn. I remember being at the Galleria in Houston when I heard the news. Man...30 years goes by quickly.

I bought this video back in 2006 for about 17 bucks. Great movie. Think I'll watch it again this evening.
LINK
Scroll down to see the video short on it. I don't know if many folks are aware that he was made fun of early in life.

Uh, Shaq?
You haven’t a freaking Clue about Pete.
Put it this way,
Do you think Shaq woukd have ever been carried off the court by opposing fans after a game?
That’s how good Pete was...

RIP Pistol - thanks for the memories - no one, no one better than you. Records that will NEVER be broken, 3 point line & all. His ball handling videos are still used today.
Cannot remember an athletes passing that hit me as deeply as Pete’s untimely passing.

I love how everyone is putting CJ in their starting five, with no argument. That dude was so freakin good. One of the most natural scorers I've ever seen.

Not picking Ben Simmons as that forward would be moronic.
I was at LSU from 68-72. I parti d with Pete a couple times. Not saying anything more about that... period...
NOW I REALLY KNOW YOU DONT KNOW BASKETBALL.
I have 2 of the greatest ball handlers in college basketball in CJ and Pete.
Pete was 6’5-6” legit and could shoot and get around smaller guards and some as tall as him. They counstantly tried to foul him hard. He would have fouled out the entire Kentucky team the other night or had 60
On them. Alexander would not have done anything against him as he did Waters due to his size. He could jump as well. It didn’t matter if they were black, white green or blue. Walt Frazier was a ALL TIME GREAT DEFENDER. He popped off to Pete after Pete on had 20 at after a game. The next time they played Pete dropped 68 on his arse.
Back to My point... Shaq and Rudy are my 5 and 4. Go look at the scoring and rebounding from those 2. Them get back to me. Rudy was a MONSTER. I need interior defense, rebounding and a mid range shot.
Simmons couldn’t touch Petit in a mid range shot. Not in his life will he score like that guy did on the wing. PLUS he was 6’9 and take you off the dribble. That’s what made him unique for his time.
So Bob gets the 3 spot.
I’m set...

Mostly because that lineup without him demands the ball, and you really need another facilitator on that court.
About the dumbest thing I’ve read in this thread. You never saw CJ or Pete play.
You need a person with a 15’ jump shot (Bob Pettit at 6’9” 3) and another 4 that can rebound and score. That’s Rudy macklin.
fricking idiots. Simmons is the 7th or so off the bench for LSU at best. John Williams was a more complete 3 than him.

A Pete story that I have related here before but the memory of that nite, that play, is that strong. Closing seconds against Ga. at Ga. Pete is running out the clock by dribbling all over, literally, with 2-3 dawgs chasing him. Dribbles to half court, less than 10 seconds left, dribbles to the far end, back to half court, clock hits 0000 & his hook shot from mid court hits nothing but the net. Pete never broke stride & ran off into the LSU locker room Dawg fans went bonkers.

Yeah I’m old, but I got to see every home game he played in at the “cow” palace. Thanks Pete, and dad for the tickets.....
Prolly Apple Sanders, Pete blooded his nose one night with a no look pass

One night the center (forgot his name) was not watching Pete on fast break because he was to Pete's far left and on the wing, Pete threw a behind back pass to him which hit him in the side of the head!

I remember many times when Pete was called for travelling by the referees when he didn't even have the ball. His passing was so spectacular that he would dish the ball off and the refs couldn't believe what they saw. That was the good old days.

This is without a doubt fact. Witnessed it myself.

R.I.P. Johnny Breathwit. LSU Basketball great 1975-1977.????????

It's the five best players, and Simmons isn't in the top ten.
He may be a great NBA talent but one good season at LSU isn't near enough to pass what others did over several seasons, some being championship seasons.

eople laugh when i tell them i'd put an all-time starting 5 at LSU up against any other school out there and be confident we could win.
They are stupid then.
LSU has a scary all time team.

I had the privilege of going to his basketball camp in 1986. He was only 36 or 37 then. They had a bunch of very good players there and he would scrimmage against them. He was amazing then. The camp had 4 and 5 stars and he was dominating them. He was the best ball handler and passer to this day i have ever seen.

Had doctors diagnosed Pete's heart defect early in his life, he may have never been allowed to play basket ball.
Could have been something that developed over time. Wally Pontiff had a heart abnormality that went undetected until it caused his death. (and yes, I know basketball is more strenuous than baseball...)
