Non LSU people who know sports will tell you Pete was the best at the college level

Shaq may be dominant but you have no idea just how incredible Pete was

He didn’t even have the 3 pointer

If he had the 3 pointer then his scoring would be even more redonkulous

Read up on him LINK

Exactly, Pete was so great other teams’ fans really respected his play.

Glad someone mentioned how the 3 pointer was not part of the game when the Pistol played at LSU.

He is still the only player ever to average over 40 per game each year in college and was a phenomenal passer as well.

There will never be another like Pete.

One of our family friends scored 30 against LSU as a freshman which was his best game ever and believe was/is a school record. Unfortunately no one talks about his game because senior Pistol Pete scored 69 that night in Tuscaloosa.

This is him trying to guard Pete

Lots of people mentioning no 3 point line, but remember, there was no shot clock then either. Other teams would stall just to keep the ball away from Pete.

he probably is #3.

1. Pistol
2. CJ
3. Shaq

Shaq had the best NBA career of the 3 of them.
but we talking about their time in college.

Too bad there isn't a college version of NBA Jam. Imagine how much fun it would be to play as LSU.

A Pete story that I have related here before but the memory of that nite, that play, is that strong. Closing seconds against Ga. at Ga. Pete is running out the clock by dribbling all over, literally, with 2-3 dawgs chasing him. Dribbles to half court, less than 10 seconds left, dribbles to the far end, back to half court, clock hits 0000 & his hook shot from mid court hits nothing but the net. Pete never broke stride & ran off into the LSU locker room Dawg fans went bonkers.

SOB, I was talking to my Dad last night about the Pistol and he mentioned this exact story and how awesome it was.

Keltic Tiger, are you my Dad?

BlastOff, I am Irish of course & as such, while traveling the world in my youth, in keeping with the true Keltic tradition I spent few lonely nights on the road. Was your mother ever in Madrid? Or Istanbul ? Athens mabe?

A sadder story bout Pete in his Jazz days. His brother Ronnie was the mgr at an upscale Italian restaurant in the Quarter & a good friend worked behind the bar there. We used to go there for good..free..drinks & we often saw Pete there, post game, sitting alone with a bottle of Jack Daniels. More than a few times he finished the bottle, alone. He had his demons but even Bob Cousey always bragged that Pete was the best he'd ever seen on a basketball court with the ball in his hand.
