Look for this conversation to occupy the airwaves today seeing as to how the tax bill legislation had a chokehold on the conversation before today.

Dems will semi recover from their pity party from yesterday and go balls to the wall with vehement all out assaults today. Guaranteed.

You mean they won’t have a running count of deaths that are directly related to the tax bill?

News has been on in the backround for the last 3 and a half hours and I've heard it covered for a total of about 10 minutes. They're on the tax bill pretty much non-stop.

And there's no way the GOP is going to let the walk off story for the weekend be a shutdown. No chance they let it happen. I doubt there's much suspense at all.

disappointed???

I wish for a shutdown - and use it to identify 'non-essential' government workers for termination.

The government shuts down every Friday at 5:00 pm and we all seem to survive it.

My friend works for the Federal government. Last time he was seething with resentment for the Republican congress letting it happen. Turns out he got a bonus 2 weeks paid vacation as a result. Did not hear the complaints then. This Federal government is pitiful at all levels.

Booming economy, corporations giddy over tax relief.. Consumer confidence at all time high.

Another great move by Dems to shut the government down over the issue of sheltering illegal aliens.

Let's see how this works out for them.

Yeah but the verbal gymnastics by the Dems between now and tomorrow will be an event to be cherished.

The beauty of a shutdown right now is that this is already a dead time for a lot of federal offices.

It is the week between Christmas and New Years. There are already statute holidays declared and a bunch of people will have already taken leave anyway to take advantage of the short week.

The period between Veteran’s Day and MLK Day has so many holidays that you are unlikely to see any work done from November to January.

In general, are these government shutdowns a new product of the last 25 years or so, or is this something that has occurred through history? I don't recall it being a thing until the Clinton years. Then again, that's when I was old became enough to care about politics and pay attention so I've may have missed the earlier ones.

Shut that bloated freight train down for two weeks to pay for the tax cuts. Shut it down for a month and let’s balance budget.

I am unaware of any before then.

This is a product of Congress and a President unable to get a budget passed, one way or another. It’s come to a head more in recent years precisely because Obama has no official budget but a series of continuing resolutions.

That’s not to say there weren’t budget battles between Clinton and Republicans for 6 years or W and Democrats for 2 years, but going 7 years with no official budget meant constant CRs in order to keep the money flowing.
