I used the bike rental service several times while in Denver to explore around town.
Of course that place is set up well for biking.
What am I missing about the potential theft issue?.... The kiosk all had stringent locking systems and you had to swipe a credit card to get a bike to rent. If your bike doesn't make it back, you would be charged for it.

What’s the turnover on bike inventory gonna look like?
NBR — very very very very high
SBR - very very very low.
Doesn’t really matter because the vendor is responsible for buying and maintaining the bikes.

Absolutely. This has already happened in Baltimore, where they had to shut the program down due to so many thefts.
This was brought up last night. There was a malfunction on the locking mechanism in Baltimore and has since, been fixed.

Stolen credit card?

If this is the bike thing connecting LSU and DT to NBR... It's dumb as frick. No sane person biking in to NBR
That's a bike trail. This is a pretty decent idea. You can rent bikes for like $10/hr to ride from point a to b or return to a. I could see myself using this for fun downtown or near campus more than a means to move around the city.
It has it's place if managed properly.

This is a mind boggling quote. Ignoring her misuse of the words it's not true at all and a window into a culture of bizarre thinking.
If I make more money than my neighbor, does that make my neighbor poorer than they already were? frick no.

That's a pretty outrageous price for renting a bike. I could just uber to downtown and back cheaper.

Chauna Banks is perhaps the dumbest person ever elected to public office in Baton Rouge. She literally cannot have a discussion about anything without bringing up racism.

If there was a market for bike rentals in BR wouldn't some entrepreneur open up a bike renting business? Why is the government involved?
Look what entrepreneurs have done in BR without government help; Uber, Waitr, and Tiger Trails.
If there was a genuine need, entrepreneurs would fill the gap. Locals would buy bikes themselves and ride them to work if they thought that was a good thing. Few do, that should tell you something right there.
LSU and Southern students would use bikes if they felt it was a good deal. I don't go to southern much, but I go to LSU some and I don't see many cyclists. Are there that many using bikes at LSU?
100K of local money and 500K of Federal money. It doesn't sound like a lot (especially for the Feds), but 100K could go towards building a bridge over Wards Creek so the bike path on opposite banks could be used. It could go towards a sidewalk on Gardere which was promised. It could go to putting in a right turn lane at some corner that needs one.
But its another feel good project, it gets funded while other more important projects seem to starve. That's the way EBR works.

This is not a fricking zero sum game. I DGAF about a bike, but the logic here is dumb.

I would pay that one morning if I Park at the Farmers Market and want to ride a bike along the levee to LSU and back. Fun stuff and exercise.
Also That was just a guess based on tourist bike rentals. Fort worth has pricing here.
$8 for 24 hours and $3 for an hour.

Most cities they've done these bike share things have ended miserably. The bikes end up vandalized, stolen, or damaged. It's good in theory but most people have zero respect for property that isn't theirs.

I biked a decent amount when I was in school... and I lived in the Perkins Rd. overpass area for a good while after and would bike to campus on gamedays. I honestly would have biked more if BR was more bike friendly... there was no good way for me to bike from the overpass area to downtown for work or I might have done it when the weather was nice.

That's a lot more reasonable.
