FYI, Nola has added more bike paths and bike lanes than probably any other city in the southeast in the past five years. You want to know why? Because people like to bike around the city and it's easy to do. I can promise you that people aren't getting bike jacked all of the time.
This afternoon there will be thousands of people biking around the city due to this beautiful weather.
And I agree with just about everyone else in this thread, BR is not set up well and I doubt this program will work there.

You can bet that a few private business have investigated doing this in BR and came to the conclusion that it would not turn a profit. Not enough people that would rent them to off set the amount of bikes that would be stolen and still turn a profit.

On govt. bikes or their own bikes???
I'm thinking that bikes are relatively inexpensive and if there is a market for biking people will buy their own bikes. Now bike sharing in a tourist city like NO may work too. I can see that.
I believe NO is the highest rated bike city in the Deep South.

You can shite on it however you like. Going into the idea with a negative perspective is your prerogative.
But GPS helps retrieve stolen cars, smart phones/devices, and even expensive industrial tools/equipment all the time.
It's indisputably a deterrent.

You are solidifying my thoughts. People will buy their own bikes if they want to, they do not need govt. involvement.
Now if govt. wants to get involved, that's where bike trails come in; however, only when there's s real need.
I could be all wet, but I seldom see many bikers headed to LSU or on any of the other bike paths we have now in BR. I see some hard core cyclists out and about too, but not many.
I don't think this bike share is going to do very well.

I see groups of people on rented bikes EVERY SINGLE DAY riding in the Marigny up esplanade toward BSJ, through the WHD down magazine to the LGD, etc.
I think the bike rack you mentioned previously on Baronne is owned privately by A-Lofts not th city
