Well when you have shitty transit no one is going to take it. Cats busses and really almost any bus has the stigma of bein poor trashy transportation.

There are bike shops all around town. People can buy any bike they want.
If bikes were a bonafide transportation alternative, wouldn't people be riding bikes already. Why would government assistance be needed?

NOLA doesn't really need bike lanes. Just wait for a good rain and you can get around Venice style.

I ride public transportion (Bus Streetcar) in Nola often when I decide to not drive or bike (sometimes I’ll take a bus with my bike) and there is young, old, black, white, rich, poor. Everyone using the public transportation... and you can’t say that NolaRTA is all that much better than CATS.

They did this in Mobile, AL. Complete disaster. Most bikes were stolen and found all over the city.

So we've got results from Baltimore, Seattle, and Mobile. Three completely different places that all resulted in the same thing. But SS insists that BR needs to try it.

80% paid for with a grant, If spent trying to get BR in the twenty first century, sounds like a better idea than not.

They are ramping a new program up right now from what I understand. They are all light blue bikes. There are still a bunch of places that rent out bikes. I know there is a rack outside the hotel on Baronne and Gravier that you rent with a credit card.

It's a complete waste of taxpayer money and exactly what's wrong with crony capitalism. Like someone said, the govt takes 80% of the hit on the investment and the company isn't on the hook if it's a massive failure. If it was such a great market, companies would make their own investments. BR has neither the desire nor the infrastructure to be a biking city. Promoting biking is fine, but the govt attempting to create a market is a recipe for disaster. Hell, they got a grant to build a huge bike loop and it's pretty much all in NBR - the area that has zero interest in biking trails.
