Well at least they acknowledge they have a huge problem.. but they claim not because of the kneeling for anthem...

"People are staying away from the NFL. Viewership is down and empty seats are up compared to the record ratings of a few years ago. It's hard to argue that fact.

Any camera angle that panned across the upper deck in any number of stadiums Sunday confirmed that fact. The issues with ratings are well-documented. It has become convenient to blame that phenomenon, at least in part, on the ongoing issues of player demonstrations but now, nearly a season-and-a-half since Colin Kaepernick first took a knee, I'm not buying it. There's some protesting going on, without a doubt, but it's fans protesting the product being put on the field, I believe, more than any pronounced reaction to a handful of players displaying their Constitutional rights before kickoff."

In the same article where it claims the product is bad, it's encouraging you to get the CBS ap to watch more games. Funny.

What a bunch of pansies. No one has 'Constitutional rights' to protest or make their employer look bad. Keep on keeping on NFL with the PC BS.

There's absolutely no question. I resold Saints tickets borderline professionally from 2006 through 2013 when I was stripped of the tickets by Mike Stanfeld. I had 90 season tickets at my high point and made a good deal of money from them. I still have 4 left (which I never use, only resell) and the difference is astounding.

A 4-2 Saints team from any of the years 2006 through 2016 would have meant the cheapies ($23-36 face value depending on what year) would be going for over $100 to the remaining games.

This year sellers are only clearing about $45 for these same tickets (granted I didn't check after yesterday's win yet).

It's definitely the protests.

Was actually Jerry Jones saying that. "“There is no question the league is suffering negative effects from these protests,” Jones said on Sunday.

The excuse about 'the product' is lame. There have always been injuries to star players. The W-L percentage of teams has never changed. The cumulative has always been .500.

Shouldn't you read the article before you post this? NFL has admitted no such thing.

I'm certain America's response to kneeling has been to find other things to do on Sundays but that's not what the article is saying.

No doubt he's drowning in objectivity.

And to think, none of this would have happened if Kaepnernick could run an offense.

the best thing coming is all the money that the broadcast channels will have to repay the advertisers for declining ratings...

Dickwads on Tigerdroppings have been doing exactly that, since the beginning.

Yeah, because the millions of fans who have explicitly told the NFL that they refuse to support those who disrespect our country, our flag, and the people it represents are lying.

I've been done with the NFL for a while, but it is shocking to see that they apparently are intent on doubling down on stupid until they completely destroy their brand.

Couldn't disagree more.
You have it reversed, protesting the players support of a racist group (BLM) and its anti police agenda is primarily cause of this years drop off. Product on field has not changed significantly year to year. But there is a huge difference from one idiot disrespecting America and whole teams in unity.

NFL needs to tell "constitutional rights protesters" to STFU at work, and pursue their constitutional rights to be unpatriotic, racist, anti police arseholes on their own time.

It is definitely a complex scenario. I think the protests made many people step back and ask if they really wanted to support this and then they probably realized how much money and time they wasted on overpaid brats and thought there might be a better way to spend their time and money regardless of the protests.

The left keeps wanting to make this about "protesting" .

It's not about "protesting". The NFL is a product like any other product.

All products have some customers who are absolute brand loyal..........some customers who enjoy the product a lot and they might prefer not do without it.........some customers who use the product and enjoy it, but it's not a must and some casual customers that occasionally use the product.

Obviously, many other categories too but the point is, you really want ALL of those customers to use your product at whatever THEIR max volume might be.

If your product is a product that is consumed in some part due to the good feelings associated with that product(at least for some customers), that's important too.

There are hundreds of shows on TV every week that I don't watch. My reason for not watching them isn't because I'm protesting them. It's simply because I'm not attracted to watch them. They don't appeal to whatever mental stimulation requirement I might have to watch the show.

THIS is the part that "protesting doesn't work" people don't get.

I totally agree that protesting almost never works.

The damage here isn't from the active "frick the NFL I ain't watching" crowd. It's from the, "meh, that's not all that fun anymore" crowd and the, "meh, I don't feel like being insulted in person" crowd.

They aren't waking up on Sunday thinking, "I'll show the NFL". They're just not waking up thinking about the NFL at all.

Which from a marketing perspective, is actually worse.

This is true. The ratings were declining prior to the knee thing due to this. The taking a knee just accelerated it

The protests are having an impact on attendance, but there's some other issues at play:
1. Increasing ticket costs & PSLs
2. Quality and affordability of High-end TVs and home theater systems + packages like NFL Sunday Ticket
3. Game Day Experience - the proliferation of fights, public drunkenness, profane language, etc at so many NFL stadiums has gotten out of hand. Just search "NFL Stadium Fights" on YouTube and you'll see its not just an issue confined to a few cities and teams.
