There were moments in the second half I thought the OL play improved -- at least better than in the first.

Did the coaches change something I didn't notice? I did notice the Syracuse D respected Brennan's passing threat much more than Etling's, so that could be it, too.

And we are struggling against the cupcakes of the season. If we couldn't make it work now it never will.

If they start doing this often it'll be straight down hill. Need 5 eligibles with a clear hot route

Especially when the TE's are totally ineffective when called upon to pass block. How hard is it to see a defender creeping up on your outside shoulder and take that guy instead of ineffectively trying to help the tackle with his head up guy? That happened multiple times. I have no idea what goes through these guys' heads during pass blocking situations.

Yeah it's no accident that the score was 28-10 at one point. I didn't see us take the foot off the gas, we just didn't have a great plan to attack their aggressive defense and our OL missed some assignments.

They will get better. Canada has to find a way to attack an aggressive DL and the blitz. If LSU can do that it will slow them down or we can just keep attacking it. Have a plan for both but LSU isn't running what he did at Pitt right now. We aren't using all the options he did at Pitt. What I would do is simplify the offense to start the game, hurt the defense a few times with quick throws in multiple areas, get the defense thinking about it and then start running our fakes, and hit them in the run game.

We ran that type of offense right before half time and it worked well. Start the game off that way and get the offense some confidence, and momemtum then build into a more complicated system. Idk maybe our personell just aren't able to run it that way but that's on Canada to know. If we can't run it to its full effectiveness then he just needs to stop completely, and run a normal offense.

Without all the bells and whistles to his offense it will not work IMO. So do away with it and run a normal offense so we can be most effective. The defense just need to be more patient and do their jobs without trying to make plays outside of Aranda's scheme. Aranda and the veterans that are doing their jobs correctly need to work with the guys who aren't. Help those guys out.

If the younger or less experienced guys are having trouble reading film, then they should all spend time with those guys to break that down for them. They need to spend more time with those guys having trouble. Babysit thier arse, do what ever you have to do to improve this defense. They need to be prepared so they can play fast and be effective. Stop overreacting to these darn fakes. Let that side of the defense do their jobs and you do yours. These guys need to grow up fast.

Let's see if all this talk translates to results on the field.

I don't understand how you get to this level in your career as an Olinman and you can't fricking block.

Have you watched the Saints or NY Giants offensive lines this year?

Serious question.

The defensive line has a huge say in this matter, it's not just the OL out there.

I think the OL is missing assignments and will get better. If not, I like the idea of moving Clapp to guard.
There's not a whole lot of magic pixie dust to be had regarding the OL... but this is one I THINK will help.

Clapp is indeed losing some 1-on-1 battles, but he is also trying to do too much and finding himself in no-man's land. When I see a defense converge on QB or make contact 1/3 yard after handoff AND OL looking for someone to block, I get pissed and it's a sign you got major problems.

By putting Cush at C (as was batted around before the season) and letting Clapp back at G we could see a difference. Cushenberry is supposed to be pretty damn good himself. Let's find out.

Charles is coming along fast enough. He might be progressing really fast... but it ain't enough. This also helps with that.

Other than that, get Deculus rolling. I don't care if he isn't SEC-ready, or hasn't quite got the protections down... we had Syracuse DEs converging on Etling and missed assignments galore. It's a "hey, it can't get any worse" theory.

Ok, so you dont want to play better. Good, glad to hear that.

We will put you in the category of thinking it would be nice to look bad against Troy. We looked bad for three games. When everyone was stroking themselves off after BYU, I was ridiculed for saying that our line looked terrible. Then again after a very bad Chattanooga team.

For the first time all year we tried a different blocking scheme, because we cant handle the straight zone scheme that Grimes has used. IF we can get better, (which I know you are against) I think we can put together a good game against Troy. Which I would like to see. Because if we cant play good against Troy, we cant play good against the others. Which you dont care about.

In addition to too many white shirts becoming spectators after their initial blocking attempt, why does it have to follow the script of offense staring at the sideline after the previous play, OC in stadium box wait on defensive players to set up so he can answer their setup with his package, all the while the clock is running. QB stares at the sideline, the call is" oh, we waited too damn long to call a play, check your wrist band and run a dive play". Frustrating to say the least.
Also, it is written in the "Great Book of Coaching" that the offense has to be balanced. 50/50 run pass. no mater that their dbs can't cover an old lady in a wheel chair., we must get our runs in. Same thing with passes to wr s.

Would be a thread without you bashing O. You should be proud. My guess is you support the disrespect of the country as well.

So, basic point of OP is:
Bad news - our OL is a real weakness
Good news - the coaches know it!

This is really good news. Thanks for sharing.

Adrian Magee? I saw someone else say that he improved the OL play. I wish I could confirm if that's the case.

Syracuse was also only rushing 3 and four guys so our pass blocking assignments were pretty simple.

Is he losing battles or is he expecting a double team? I rewatched the Syracuse game today and I wasn't able to tell if he missed his block THAT bad or if the guard was supposed to help.

Considering our last coach and his verbal hieroglyphics, I'm glad to know our new coach not only knows what the problem is, but is actually going to do something about it.
