Do people know they go to Houston to "help" without telling Facebook?

Seems like everyone on my Facebook that's down there "helping" is more concerned with selfies and Facebook status updates.

You sound like you feel guilty for not helping.

I agree that the amount of virtue signalling is pretty bad, but at the very least, they're helping. Better than some faggy FB filter like #IStandWithHouston

Ditto man. shite is ridiculous.

Patting oneself on the back for helping is pretty normal to be honest.

You have shitty friends. I wonder why

Would you agree that it is better to go help and post about it on FB than not go help at all?

I gave $5 to a kid selling lemonade for Harvey relief. I only got 2 cups and let him keep the $3 change. You don't here me bragging all over the place. Some people just need to be seen.

It's the world we now live in. I helped clean out and gut several houses last year without making a single post.
However, while some people do it for attention, I think there are people who make those posts to try and inspire others to do more.

I get where you're coming from, but I have a hard time criticizing people who are actually helping. Social media, if anything, is increasing the amount of help to the affected areas. This isn't a bad thing.

I've got a few friends that posted about cooking jambalaya and stuff like that. They were using it more as a platform to let their other friends who couldn't get out to help see that they had something going on.
They threw up a paypal and were able to generate some cash to keep feeding folks.
I'd much rather donate cash to someone I know, than to a charity- lots of folks probably feel the same way.

I haven't gone to help because I don't have a Facebook account to brag on. And starting an account just for that reason seems like a lot of work. Sure, I could post on here about all the good I'm doing but only a few posters know who I am. So what's the point?

1. Get off of Facebook. It's cancer.
2. I have family there helping and none of them have Facebook. My uncle and two cousins went. They loaded a up boat and an RV with supplies before heading out with no other plans other than to help as much as they could.

How would they get free money?

"Suzanne used to say that you're not really anybody in America unless you're on Facebook... 'cause what's the point of doing anything worthwhile if there's nobody watching? So when people are watching, it makes you a better person. So if everybody was on Facebook all the time, everybody would be better people. But, if everybody was on Facebook all the time, there wouldn't be anybody left to watch, and that's where I get confused."
