Even though it had been dumped on Friday nights, the Tim Allen sitcom Last Man Standing enjoyed ratings that Deadline describes as "very respectable for any night and especially Friday[.]" Every week, the half-hour comedy, one of the very few aimed to appeal to America's heartland, won its time-slot in the all-important demo, including 6.4 million overall same-day viewers. Deadline further adds that "[w]hile most returning shows were down year-to-year 20-30%, LMS was virtually flat, off just by 5% in total viewers and adults 18-49[.]"

I knew it wouldn't last. My wife was hulu-ing it nightly. It was pretty good. Reminded me a lot of home improvement. I was actually shocked they let them have a comedy with a more right wing slant than the typical left wing slant.

Not surprised in the least it was cancelled though.

Never heard of the show. What makes it Trump friendly?

I watched some of that on Netflix. It was pretty good.

I wonder why ABC would cancel a show that has good ratings when there are so many terrible shows out there? It couldn't be because of politics, since networks try their best to stay away from such things.

He always made fun of King Obama and Queen Hillary so he had to go.

Sad to see it go.

Of course, any show that I can stand to watch gets canceled.

Actually enjoyed the hell out of that show for the very reason it was canceled...I would bet.

Here's to more Black-ish, y'all.

IDK if the OPs heading is fair, the sitcom may have had good ratings for its time slot, but very likely bad ratings for the amount of money they were putting into the show. I know Tim Allen isn't an A-lister, but he is a TV icon that had a run with a highly successfully family sitcom and a string of popular movies. I have to imagine that this was purely a business decision, the cost to make the show was to much to be put into that time slot.

that show was awful

and TV shows get cancelled all the time despite high ratings, mostly due to budget or contractual issues

Literally the only sitcom on television from a conservative viewpoint. Of course it was cancelled.

The ratings aren't very high. They moved it from Tuesday (a popular TV time slot) to Friday (an unpopular spot). I would guess ad revenue is less because of that too.

including 6.4 million overall same-day viewers.
And has been on a decline. And Tim Allen makes a large salary ($250,000 per episode) for a sitcom with average ratings. The two leads on Blackish make $180,000 combined, and his contract has been an issue for years.

Apparently it is very successful in syndication though, so given the ratings decline, salary costs, and a successful syndication deal, it seems like a very reasonable decision.

It was already moved to Friday night. I'm sure paying Tim Allen was getting expensive.

I really like the show, but think it has ran its course.

It's one of only a few shows on broadcast whose conservative characters aren't retarded loons.

And the article itself is ridiculous, calling the decision corporate fascism and insisting the salary cost is not valid and it must be political. Yet, deadline reported 3 years ago that Allen's salary was an issue. 2014: Negotiations

Further squeezing the license fee for the show may be problematic for the studio as star Tim Allen commands a six-figure per-episode pay check.
And somehow it also makes this conclusion while noting this:
quote:

After six seasons, the ABC broadcast network is contractually required to cover the cost of producing the show. Until now, Last Man Standing had been produced and paid for by 20th Century Fox TV before being licensed for broadcast to ABC.
So ABC had been dealing with costs issues for years, but kept it going, and next season it has to start covering production costs.

Yet, declining ratings, significantly more costs, but it must be political.
