Anybody done the full blown 23andme DNA test?

I'm thinking about it. But I'm afraid it will tell me I'm going to die of some dreaded disease. Or that I am predisposed to alcoholism. (Duh.)
On the genealogical side, it would be pretty interesting. The ancestry.com one is only $89 if that's all you're interested in. How much should one pay to be told he is Irish?

No. My skin is much darker than anyone in my immediate family. Not trying to pay $200 to confirm I'm secretly adopted.

I did it about 5 years ago. Pretty informative. I'm note sure I believe in the ancestry stuff. Everyone it's said I've been related to I've never heard of.

I don't feel comfortable sending my DNA to anyone. Who knows what they do with it and who they give it to.

I'm afraid to find out my Teloyears.

Do it. Besides getting a good genetic mapping you get all kinds of other good info.Luckily I have none of the scary sounding genetic markers .I opted in to be notified by relative matches and three weeks later I got a nice email from a second cousin with a family tree that went back to 1803 in the old country. Everyone here is going to tell you that a cop is going to use your DNA now to pin a murder on you, btw. That's the OT consensus.

I did 23&Me. Wife did ancestry. The medical stuff is interesting on 23 but ancestry helps people find people. Wife adopted. Found mother, father, 2 sisters & 2 brothers

Did it in January. 23andme itself doesn't provide great information, but you pay $5 and input your raw genetic data into promethease.com and it gives you more useful health information. In promethease, you can sort by "good" news and "bad" news. Here is some of the good stuff in my own report:
And some bad stuff....
If it weren't for promethease and similar sites, the 23andme data would be near useless by itself, as it's no longer allowed to tell you that sort of stuff (FDA crackdown).
EDIT: Also, 23andme has a "find people" aspect to it, showing thousands of people who I share DNA with (99.9% of them are 4th, 5th cousins and beyond). Ancestry.com has a leg up on that, given the heavy advertising, so you're more likely to find closer relatives and better info.

It's all fun and games playing ancestry until you get a certified letter demanding years of back child support.

I got it as a gift from my mom, so I don't k ow if it was a full blown DBA analysis.
It told me what I already know, Italian and British Isles blood.

Don't know about 23 and me but if you do it through ancestry then the mormons will have you DNA. Who knows what they will do with it.

I did and the result indicated that I shared DNA with the small % of a clan of people with males possessing greater than a 12.5" penis. I am elated that I finally "fit in" somewhere and am not just a physical freak! ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

Congrats on the clones they've made of you.

I did it years ago. They sent me a cool family tree map thing that connected all of the relatives. The weird thing is, it was a circle.
I'm from Alabama

I thought about it, but I'm lazy and your mom wasn't available to provide a sample of my DNA.
