Good or Bad that Brandon Harris is transferring....

I personally think it takes away an unnecessary distraction. Canada can now focus on getting Etling ready instead of trying to rebuild Harris' mental and physical foundation. If Etling gets hurt then we get to see if Lindsey Scott or McMillain can surprise like Herb Tyler did instead of sitting on the bench with untapped potential like Debo did.

Definitely, good for harris

Good because we won't have to hear the "what-ifs" all year
Bad because we won't have the experience at depth

Good. Harris would have taken away prep from others who might actually have to play and who probably fit Canada's offense better.

It's obviously bad in that we lose depth, but the real question is how Harris would have handled the backup role all season. Would he have been disgruntled and caused distractions or divisions in the locker room? There's really no way to know but I suspect Harris wouldn't have handled it with grace so in that instance, call it a win. But if Etling goes down and Scott or someone else can't step in and perform right away we're fricked.
All in all I'd say it was a must. You can't let a kid hold you hostage over the starting QB spot.

In my mind its a good sign that Etling has surpassed Harris so far that Harris can't even compete for the starting job.

Well this tells me that the coaches really believe we have the backups capable to acceed what Harris could do on the field. I really think that Scott is right on Etlings heels, he's a great runner of the offense that Harris just wasn't. Will it translate to the field? Well obviously the coaches feel like it will. I just can't see the coaches letting him go if they didn't feel this way, they would have talked him into staying. He would have stayed if he and they felt that he really had a chance. GT

The first interception/bad game from Etling and this board will be flooded with what if's/ I told you so threads.

It's good for him. He was a highly touted recruit and Ohio State wanted him bad, and they were stacked at QB. He just wasn't developed properly and lost confidence. I hope he has a good career somewhere else.

have you not heard of the amazing talent known as Lindsey Scott... From the way people talk about him is he's mike vick from 2004 madden... You'll hear the "what-ifs" all season long about him

Reading the replies it's obvious that our fans, me included, have a tainted view of QB development and what is expected of backups. The reason for this is obvious, but the hope is that with the new OC coach, who has the reputation of developing QB's, may in fact have our team prepared with an experienced starting QB and backups that can fill the "next man up" role. I'm optimistic that we will not see the same old same old. Losing a starting QB is tough, but many teams have proven that they can develop true freshman into a starting QB. I'm hopeful that our new backups will be challenged and prepared mentally for the position they may be put in. I do not believe our backups lack the physical ability.

Herb Tyler '95 was better than Jamie Howard.
How did Dinardo not see that?!

Good for the kid. Harris gets a do over.
Good for LSU. Unconditional release will help recruit kids on the fence. Perfect answer to concerned parents question of what if my son doesn't start after a few years!

Can Harris play right away or will he have to sit for a year?

It's great. Allows more snaps for younger backups to blossom.

Good that one of the young QBs will have to step up and be the backup, bad in that we lose an experienced player.

It depends on how Etling plays this year.

good for Harris. good for LSU. fresh start for him. unnecessary distraction for LSU. and one of the last vestiges of the Miles-messing-up-the-quarterback situation.

I think that not only was Etling ahead of him on the depth chart, but Scott also. Perhaps, the staff was fair to the kid and made him aware of this. Either way, good luck to Harris wherever he ends up.
