Does this open up a spot on the 85 man scholarship roster?

have you not heard of the amazing talent known as Lindsey Scott...
Yep, 4 Heisman's and will dominate the SEC for the next 4 years, just like Russell Shepard, Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris were supposed to do.

The more an athlete is hyped on here by the Rant "X-Box Experts", the more likely that he'll be a bust or huge disappointment.............

Are you sure? Isn't he a true Jr? Impressive if he graduates in 3 years

On Monday, LSU quarterback Brandon Harris announced his decision to transfer from the program. As a soon-to-be graduate, he’ll be eligible to transfer to any school of his choosing without having to sit out the 2017 season.

Always better to have a back up QB with some experience. That no longer exists.

My take is that the coaches (including Canada) have evaluated everyone, and determined that Etling is the starter.
How is this possible with ZERO practices under Canada?
Film study, discussion with other coaches, and interviewing the returning players. Who does everyone click with, who seems ready to lead.

Let's be honest here- the two most explosive players on offense returning are Guice and Chark. Doesn't matter who hands the ball to Guice, but Etling showed that he could dump it to the backs, and Harris never could.
Regarding Chark, it was clear that Chark and Etling have a connection. Chark was elevated to significant PT as soon as Etling was promoted, probably because they practiced a lot together as backups. Chark was his go-to guy in crunch time; the too-late TD vs Auburn, the 4th and long vs Florida, there were several other big plays when you absolutely had to have them.
You only have one year of either Etling or Harris, and that one year will include Chark and Guice too. It's not hard to say "we're going with the guy who meshes with our stars".

Generally agree, but experience doesn't mean much if the backup QB is bad.
