We have Etling, a freshman with two knee injuries and a freshman who wont arrive until the summer. We could have used him for depth.

Well we've always loved the backup QB, but with Harris I can't say that's true. It's really a win-win. It's a win for Harris to get a chance to start somewhere new and we wish him best of luck. And it's a win because we get to fall in love with a new backup.

Yep, this is good for Harris, maybe he can get some good exposure at another school.

Presumably good for him, but bad for LSU. Except in the most extreme case of a player with an attitude problem (of which there is absolutely no indication with Harris), a team NEVER benefits from losing a player. If you have a player available, the worst that can happen is that you don't need him so you don't use him. If he is not available, the worst that can happen is you do need him but you don't have him. You never know what might happen, and you'd always rather have a player available in case you need him.

But, if it's best for Harris to transfer, then good luck to him and I hope he enjoys success wherever he lands.

Unless it's Alabama.

The worst possibility is that Etling gets hurt and we have no experienced backup. One good possibility is that it may allow for a cleaner break from the old for the Canada era and more practice time for Etling's eventual successor. Hopefully, Etling shines this year, his replacement shines the next and we never really know, or care, if it was a good or bad thing.

Good. Harris was suspect and cried on the sideline after he threw the game ending interception in the Wisconsin game!

Good.

In my opinion him transferring means he was passed up by another QB and was pushed to third string. Hopefully this means our young QBs are developing.

neither. There are good aspects to it and negative aspects. This doesn't need to be wrapped up and put in a neat little box.

Good for him probably.

Bad for us probably.

Like somebody else said on another board - He was a twisted ankle or a having great Spring training away from being the starting QB. Now the question isn't who's going the be the starter but who's going to be the backup?

Hope he finds a good landing spot. Good kid.

Good for both. I doubt he would have emerged from spring as number 2. Good clean break for both.

Do you know Harris personally? I didn't think so.

Somewhat good for Harris, somewhat bad for us. In this case, it's a net good.

Harris would have clouded up the picture for the QB of the future - now, with the #2 spot relatively open - Canada and staff will be able to relatively quickly figure out if Scott (or, much less likely, McMillan) is the clear #2 - or if either of Narcisse or Brennan needs to get ready ASAFP.

Assuming Scott is the clear #2, with McMillan an acceptable "disaster" QB, then the luxury of redshirting both the incoming QBs is great to have.

No matter what happens, LSU is likely to start 2018 with it's 4th new opening day starting QB in as many years, which is normally not the sign of a championship team - recent success by freshmen QBs at other programs notwithstanding, that has not been typical of LSU QBs in the modern era (Hodson about the best and was 30 years ago).

You missed two qbs already on the roster.

He will sit out for a year if he stays in D1. The unconditional release part just means that he can go anywhere he wants to... like one of our rivals.

He graduates in May, so he will be a free agent and be able to play anywhere immediately.

Good for all parties involved. BH was not going to pass Etling but would have eaten up a lot of practice reps. Now he can go start elsewhere, Etling can get most of the work, and Scott/Brennan can compete for backup and next season. LSUs qb problems have been because young qbs are having to play too early and they aren't ready. Getting scott or Brennan some meaningful reps this year, but not having to throw them totally to the wolves will help in 2018 and 2019. Hopefully we can finally stop the cycle of having to play underdeveloped qbs.

If Etling gets hurt then we get to see if Lindsey Scott or McMillain can surprise like Herb Tyler did instead of sitting on the bench with untapped potential like Debo did.

If Etling gets hurt this season will be lost. Like 5-6 losses lost.
